#44 Northwoods barlow.

My understanding, and don't ask me where I got it (but it does seem to hold true), is that a barlow needs two things: the elongated bolster and an oval shape to the handle, though we often see them where its not a symmetrical oval or may have the corners squared off.

After having Charlie's more traditional take on the Barlow, I'm very excited to try this one out with all of the Northwoods "flair"

Woah all the ivory ones are gone. Yesterday they had 5 or 6. Definitely a sought after material. Would've loved to get one.

Does anybody here have one with light ebony covers? Does it look like both sides came from the same piece of wood?

I do not have one of the knives mentioned, but to answer the ebony cover issue. For a while now the ebony used by GEC has been lighter and has come striped with darker sections, rather than the complete total darkness of ebony used on earlier GEC knives or how ebony is generally perceived. I have a GEC sunfish with dark and light markings throughout the handle covers.

I don't think they come from the same piece of wood. All of the ones I have seen seem well matched to me. Like Rusty said, none of them are jet black. I like the light ebony better.

I just got my copy in Ivory and I am so impressed! In was nervous about the pull being as heavy as my GEC 73, but was pleasantly surprised (about a 7). I am VERY glad I ordered this one. I do wish the sheath was the standard open end one instead of the fold over cover, but I will just order one next time I put in an order (note to Derrick, these sheaths look good but in my opinion are not practical). Oh well, I am sure others love these and you will never please everyone and I do love the knives. Steven

Received my camel bone today. Very very nice knife. Excellent pull, pinchable even. The dye matching is great. Nice and dark blue.

Can you cut the fold off of the sheath to make it one of the pinch open ones?? I'll have to pick one up next order as well if not.

Also, in case anyone is wondering, the Madison is pretty much the same size as the 42 Trader.

I don't think they are very practical in the pocket. They are really designed to be an alternative to the box. They serve to protect the knife in a drawer, or in a briefcase, etc.

Glad you like the knife. I am loving mine! :)

That's cool, and in that respect I very much agree with you! Again thanks for another great knife! Steven

I ordered one of the regular pocket sheaths with mine. I have no experience with the folded ones but I like the sleeve type. Figured even if I liked the folded one, I could use the other sheath for another knife anyway.

Tonystl, I was counting on them being very similar. I knew the size is about the same.
