Great stuff!
Very nice pics!
I'm loving that deep blue camel bone....we'll done, my friend
Here's a quick snap of mine with a Forest Jack and GEC #53 for comparison.

Here's mine:

I'll try and get some better photos of it when the sun returns in June. lol

Kirby, that's a stunning knife (Congrats!) and your pictures are better than I can do on a warm Spring day! I've been looking at those Madisons for a couple of days. I missed out on the ivory, but that jigged bone is absolutely gorgeous... your pics and write-up have nudged me a step closer :)

Thank you! you sure know how to make a knife nut blush haha. :o :)

These are very tempting. Make a great combo with the houndstooth. Anyone got an ebony to show off :D

After checking with customs I just scored the #58 Mammoth Ivory one. The most beautiful I`ve seen. And while I ordered I threw in a lot of leather slip cases, can`t have enough of those. Now the wait begins. My first knife with an absolute premium handle material. This is gonna be a great EDC alongside my #81 or #15.

I visit here frequently but seldom does a new knife offering just peak my interest enough to spend much money. Why this knife? What makes this knife interesting and popular? Or is it just another Northwoods/GEC knife that garners interest from a select few? What are your thoughts?

My thoughts: And what attracted me to this knife….
Barlow pattern? I like the pattern and it reflects a larger knife that goes to my early knife using roots.
Scales? Nice Scale offerings even though I would prefer another jigged bone offering. The Elephant Ivory and Mammoth Ivory are certainly not common offerings and certainly push the knife into the premium catagory.
4.25” closed length? I like the 4-4.25”closed length and the fact that it is a single blade offering, it makes the knife size pretty pocket friendly.
Sharp edges? The knife generally has rounded edges as many of the Northwoods offerings do.
1095 steel? It is a good consistent steel that GEC has success making knives with.
Weight? It is fairly light for a GEC knife of this length which pretty much is the result of a single blade offering.
Blade Shape? The blade shape is similar to other recent GEC offerings and appears to be practical. It is sort of a drop point and at 3.5” would not normally be considered short. I would be comfortable with any number of blade shapes.
Half Stops? This is a nice touch, but not something I require.

Do a lot of you actually favor a larger knife than what is commonly produced? Or is it simply the pattern? I know that I wouldn’t have purchased this one if it was 3.5” closed or a typical Barlow length.

I bought two of the Madison barlows, and did so predominantly because of the beauty of this knife, and the lovely handles. I purchased a beautiful dark blue camel bone, and a crackled mammoth ivory. Both knives are beautiful, but also beautifully made. I think sometimes it seems that GEC makes a nicer knife for Northwoods, than they do for the general public. GEC certainly makes the best production knives I've seen.

Nevertheless, these are exceptional knives that will someday be heirlooms passed down in our family. That's how nice they are. The Madison surprises with how pocketable it is despite being a large knife. It is so very thin that it really is no problem to carry.

One final thing. I am really impressed with Derrick and Greg and their service. Both of my knives came within only a few days, and with the free leather sheath, it was a great value.

This. I was attracted to this knife as soon as I saw the mock ups on the GEC blog. After Derrick said that there were going to be some mammoth and elephant ivory handles offered, I knew that I had to have it.

For me it's never about certain features of a knife, I just know when I see it. It's easy for me to decide what I buy because I am very hot or cold with knives, and use my wallet likewise.
