5160 johndeere shaft steel update.

sounds like you're the man, Dan.

(been waiting to use that on somebody else beside me!) :D :p

I'd try to double-box it - they'll never know and you'll be able to stuff it good.

thanks for the mail from some of you so far
time is near..
I need more inputs on the commitments on amounts from the rest of you that want it
So I know which amount to get and how it ships..
for reasons below.
BTW I was mistaken on the size stock, this order will be 1.207 rounds..better no? :)

OK guys
I just got back in and read a mail from Karen .
NOW I'm running into a predicament here.

shipping to me is the thing
that available 200 pounds just turned into 500 pounds I guess they had a bigger run than they thought..NoW
it's more cost effective at that weigh to ship by truck I think?
problem,, I need to know if I can move that amount or most of it.
I sure don't need 500 lb's of it
if I order say 200 lb's and ship it by U.S. mail it will cost more by cost averaging it out...at that weight trucking is out.. because of the weight to cost comparison.

at the risk of being told I'm selling here
I'll say cost per pound with in bound shipping to me.
do you think this steel is worth the
$2.00 to $2.50 per pound price to you plus shipping to you?

I can't find REG 5160 less than $2.69 per pound and that stuff is not JD control shaft steel. so I think it's a good price..

now I can flat rate it to you by USPS but that flat rate IS limited by the USPS even though the box says regardless of weight on it
see what your postal office says about it?

so where we are at right now.

$2.00 to $2.50 per pound price plus shipping to you..
I won't know for sure the exact shipping cost from them until I tell her OK
on which amount I want sent
and she gets it loaded..but it should be in that range whichever way we go..
I'll post this in the for sale section and you can post there or e-mail me..
ether way I'd like to know if that would be a good price on a steel as this..

ED you said you'dike to have some of this JD5160
I want to put you on top of the list to get some because of your offer to experiment with it.. (your type of steel and you know more about it than the most of us..)

what do you guys say?
I think I'm in for some work here.. :( :)

Hey Dan, and all,,, check out the postal service link, they have a new flat rate $7.70 for up to #70 lbs.

that's the one in question
I found out this morning it was OK to ship that way up to 70# but it has to be secure in the box and not distort it.
no extrat taping and they advise insureance because they don't what it taped to the Hilt???

that is what they said to me 1-800askusps

sorry, after going thru the posts, I see that this has been suggested already. How much does this stuff weigh anyway? Thanks,,

I think one pound weighs,,, about one pound :p
haha pulling your leg I know what you mean..

I'm not sure what a (say) 1.019 x 9" piece weighs at this time..

I weighed a shaft I have here that is 7/8" x about 9" and it weighs
1.10 lb's so at about 9" it must be about 2-3 pounds at that length I'd say.
depending on one of the three dia's..

Dan

I am down at Ed's shop this week. We would like to get fifty to a hundred pounds of this from you. There is one condition, I want a copy of the picture that you got from Danbo. Please e-mail and let us know what and where.

ps. There is a student here that will take fifty pounds also.

Bill, I just sent the pic to Ed's email, because I was too stupid to look to see who was typing. I hope Ed don't get in too much trouble. :)

:D bill Deal, I'll send it to you too if you and ED aren't drooling over it on ED's puter all ready? :D
don't mess that key board up... :D

ok guys for those that wanted to know this stuff weighs up at
3.657 pound per foot
a lot of it will be 21" long also

because of boxing problems on their end it looks like it will ship by truck . 500 pounds of it.
that type of weigh in a cardboard box they say will cause problems
if it's not packed right.
so I'll make sure it gets packed right from here so I can ship flat rate to you guys. $7.70 plus insurance..

Dan
I would like some of this stuff too. I'll be happy with the short stuff as I plan to forge hawk heads out of it. Can you bring it to the hammer in at IG's place?

thanks
