A 2016 Forum Knife. An apology, and The Crossroads!

Looks great to me.

If we do go with a spear, I like the narrower, pointier ones more than the wide "peanut butter spreader" type.
The bar shield looks great. Being an equal end pattern, I think the shield should be symmetrical.

Looks good - I would still go for a clip main.

The lighter colored jigged bone works for me.
In addition, I like the smooth look. Would it be possible to have the jigging done with a 'pocket worn' finish?

Here are the closest knives/images I can find to what Bill and I have come up with that represent a do-able knife for 2016, given the collected comments in this thread, and what is on the schedule for GEC.
We can have lined, rounded bolsters like these, and as an alternative, we can specify a clip blade.
I'd like to see an old-timey bar shield like this one in the pics, but the shield is optional also.
Jigged bone seems called for for a knife like this, IMO, but we can negotiate that also.

Please comment, and let us know if we are on the right track.

Yes sir, you are on the right track!!

I'm digging the bar shield and jigged bone but would prefer something a little darker than the first one. My vote goes towards a clip.
This is really shaping up to be a nice knife!

we've done a lot of clip points the past few years - I like the spear and punch.

A clip on a HJ seems weird to me. You already have a good point with the awl. A spear with some belly seems like a much better pair. What am I missing with all the clip love?

I really like the lighter bone and the spear blade as on the first photo.

Looks good guys, I'd go for a clip also over the spear, as always in for one.

For the folks interested for the first time, here's the previous 10 years of Traditional Forum's knives with the packaging...

I have to say 2010-2013 y'all were on a run, particularly 11 and 12. I like the more bold, unique knives in that time frame. Wish I had been here before the it swung back to the more basic patterns.

Mr. Charlie-I'm with you on the bar shield. Mr. Fry's bar on his version of the #38 accompanied by dark black ebony or was it african blackwood is very handsome. Like a farmer going to his son's wedding, wearing a tux.

tdkfm-The spear/clip thing for me is just personal preference, and I prefer the look of a clip. They can both accomplish the task at hand. I agree that the spear most commonly appears with the punch, but these BF knives seem to be "different birds" a clip would be unique. Just my opinion, and you know what those are like......

Some reflections: a Spear lies down in the Equal End frame bettr than a Clip, it matches the symetry of the frame much better too. That light bone with worm-groove looks superb on this type of knife - there's been a lot of dark coloured knives time for a change. The long slim shield and lined (not pinched) bolsters look just right, still think slanted bolsters are worth considering too. Maybe 4 pins with a fairly large frame?

I like the examples Charlie provided which represent the current possibilities with the 2016 production schedule. The lighter bone and jigging in the first pic reminds me of the covers on the 2012 forum knife which I personally think looks really sharp(pun intended). Although a clip may not be as common as a spear on a HJ it would provide something unique especially on an EE "premier pattern production" knife.Really looking forward to more updates!

I'll be fine either way the voting goes. I do like the jigged bone in these older knives, any way GEC can do some extra special jigging to make this one special? Some of their jigged bone that I've seen just doesn't have the soul that these old knives have. I do like the simplicity of the bar shield and the lined bolsters look nice. I do think slanted bolsters could add some fun character though.

As far as blade selection, I still lean towards the clip. If the right clip blade is designed, it too can look symmetrical! Here's a pic I found on the Internet, and a thread here on BF that shows lots of examples of both blade choices: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1064978-Equal-end-jacks
