A 2016 Forum Knife. An apology, and The Crossroads!

I have no Forum knives, but I would interested in this one if it looks like the two Charlie posted.

Round lined bolsters....... Yes
Spear blade................... Yes
Bar shield...................... Yes
Jigged bone .................. Yes (light colored)

I'm in on whatever final decision is made..

Thanks
Scott

Ok revised some of my opinions after looking at the above pics and some of the White Owl pics.

Spear with long pull looks best - matchstriker long pull would be great.
Awl/Punch like the one used on the #7 Harness Jack on the #15 frame
Lined rounded bolsters
Moss Green jigged bone
Cloud shield

I prefer clip blades, but after reviewing pics of the pattern will admit the spear looks better.
I really like the awl/punch on the Harness Jack #7. The only one I think looks better is the one they used on the #85 pattern Real Harness Jack.
Lined bolsters always looks better than plain to me.
I love the Moss Green jigged bone GEC uses and would love to see it used more.
I'm not a fan of bar or hotdog shields. I think a cloud shield would look good on this pattern.

This. Pick-bone-jigged,though.;)

Here are the closest knives/images I can find to what Bill and I have come up with that represent a do-able knife for 2016, given the collected comments in this thread, and what is on the schedule for GEC.
We can have lined, rounded bolsters like these, and as an alternative, we can specify a clip blade.
I'd like to see an old-timey bar shield like this one in the pics, but the shield is optional also.
Jigged bone seems called for for a knife like this, IMO, but we can negotiate that also.

Yes to all of this! Centered bar shield, jigged bone, and rounded lined bolsters. [emoji106]

Edit: I prefer spear in this application if I got to choose.

I'm with you on the punch found on the #15 frame. It is almost like a miniature tanto blade that can be used as an awl or a flat edge profile secondary blade.

- I guess I do kinda use a punch, but those that I use are very small - jewler's bit size. If we do a punch, my request would be to give it a very small diameter and leave off the taper, make it mostly cylindrical and less of a wedge - the kind of thing that you use to push out pivots and screw retainers from modern production folders ;)

In thinking about a second blade, I would prefer a sheepsfoot or wharncliffe, but even then I don't know if I would actually use it. The punch might be more useful to me. But I'm mostly a single-blade knife guy. I was fortunate enough to find a 2015 forum knife second hand that should be here later this week, so my mind might be opened up by that piece.

I know the need for a slime punch blade but I too prefer the one used on the 15.

Best regards

Robin

I think the spear blade looks best on this type frame, but a clip is my favorite so either way is a winner in my book.
Lined bolsters look swell too.
Jigged bone gets my vote, but antique ivory micarta could be interesting.
I would like to see a darker bone, but more importantly a random jigging pattern, like Rogers bone or Culpepper's Richmond pattern.

I like it, I really do. I'm not normally a spear blade kind of guy but I do agree that in that type of EE frame it does look the nicest and it sits nice and flush. Any chance at a long pull? I've always been a sucker for a long pull. Digging the punch too. I'm pretty un-opinioned on the shield, with or without is fine by me but I do agree it needs to be simple if it's decided to go with the shield. Jigged bone looks good, but I'm hoping it's something that really shows some color variation in the edges and jigging. No matter what is decided I'm in, I'm liking where this is headed.

Thanks to everyone involved with making this happen.

What's that I keep hearing on the winds?

Zulu spear master, swedged, with long pull? Charlie will appreciate the tradition?

What a strange weather pattern we're having! :p :D

The worst part is, I don't touch type,I look at the keys but apparently see nothing :D

I think I need a new keyboard Robin, I generally preview my posts, but am frequently getting small sections of missing type recently :( I posted using my Ipad Mini for the first time in ages yesterday, how on earth anyone manages on a phone, I really don't know!  :D
