A day in the life of Burger Knives (the making of the EXK1).

Man, these look great. I think I know what my next purchase will be.

How about a Bladeforums discount? :D

I wish! ha ha! It would have been cool! But I dont mind paying $146 for a hand made product. I recently went to a store and with the import tax, exchange rate etc etc to a delica 4 @ retail it is about the same price as the EXK. I was shocked. A few years ago the D4 was still much cheaper. Damn economics always increasing prices!:p

I am glad to hear everyone is keeping Trevor busy! Good on you! Please post your comments on the knives when you recieve them.

Last weekend I was able to buy the brand new Boker Plus version of the Exskelibur 1. I was so excited that I immediately made a first impressions review clip (usually I wait longer); so if you'd like to see it in the hand you may want to check out my little video. It's wonderful (and I am sure that the original is even more wonderful!)

The Boker version is only $20 less? I don't really see the point. Might as well spend the extra cash and get a fully handmade knife.

I'll probably order this in a few months.

I see that should have added more info in my clip: Boker's Exskelibur 1 is bigger than the Burger EXK1, it is 20.5cm long open. In fact the smaller 60 euro Boker Exskelibur 2 is quite similar in size to the Burger EXK1. The original Burger is well priced for a semi-custom, but if you add customs and shipping to Europe the difference adds up to quite a bit.

Boker's Exskelibur 1 is comparable to Burger's "Large Exskelibur" LEXK which costs $265 (+ shipping + customs).

Anyway, Burger knives are of course more desirable than the production version, and the N690 steel is better as well, but the Boker Plus version is really pretty ok at the price (at least for European buyers).

Congradulations on the Boker EXK! I just saw the video and it is a great review you did a great job of pointing out everything I love about the design!!! I am going to pick up a Large EXK from Trevor this December. Also in some Carbon fiber in future. I want to have something a bit thicker when it comes to larger knives and that is why I love the rounded handles. Just what I have realised over the past years. I agree the Boker does the originals proud! They did a great job IMO.

I am glad you like the Boker! It can only help the buzz surrounding the EXK.

I'll have to pick up both and do a comparison, maybe. Great video!

I got my EXK1 in the post yesterday. It is really a sweet knife. A bit smaller than I expected but real classy.

Very nice simple design. Is it much trouble to order these shipped to the US?

Hi Melbourne

As far as I know most of Trevors market is overseas and in the USA, France etc. As far as I know and what others have posted is that after you order the ETA is about 10 days.

I am just informed by Trevor that the shipping to USA is $45, it's almost 1/3 of the knife itself. So I am kind of hesitating to get one or not. Is there any method to lower the shipping?

Trevor ships the knives through insured mail. I do not know if he would send it in any other manner. Since this is South Africa things through normal postal service has a tendency to disappear. I know that importing any products from the USA through insured mail cost the same amount.

I bought a burger exk1 some weeks ago.
I received it this saturday.
The shipping took exactly 1 week.

Ok the shipping is expensive but its the most secure shipping burger can do.
I also paid 45dollar to ship to Europe (the Netherlands).
If i buy knives from Usa i also have to pay about 30 dollars.
And shipping takes longer.

I am going to order the big boker exk1 to compare it to the burger.

The big burger and the big boker are a little bit nicer because of the rounded sanded g10 handles. The little exk knives(burger and boker) have standard flat grippy g10 handles(like spyderco knives).

The big burger is 265 dollar with g10 handles and if you want carbon fiber you pay 320.
The burger knives don't have a clip. This will be 10 dollar extra for a ti clip.

I have to say i really like the little knife.
Very nice and simple design and a nice "lip" for opening the knife with one hand:thumbup:.

I think its a really nice custom made folder and even with expensive shipping you wont find many custom folders for this price;).

Trevor contacted me and confirmed which side I wanted my clip mounted to before shipping. That was two days ago, so hopefully, mine is on its way!
