A new ZT 454 Thread for people who enjoy it

also, never mind a car door, I'm going to try and out the blade through a carbon fiber hood.

Oh sure - like I didn't already have enough things to spend money on!!

Seriously - thanks for your post, I'll have to look into those saws - you know that is a much more efficient way to get a log cut in half.

Cool

I keep saying it, but thin is in. This knife is uber tidy in the pocket, but it's a big knife that fits your hand like a glove. Amazing overall dimensions!!

Yea J_Curd -

This one is the least noticeable in pocket of any of the 4" bladed knives I have carried, plus it is very light.

It is 777 light, like forget you have it in your pocket light.

Good stuff, and it is dead sexy - love the three piece blade for no other reason than it is cool as heck!

Yea - happy guy here.

I am with you, Glenn!

The 454 is a step above with the sub-frame lock, the three piece composite blade, slim design.

The execution of this design was above and beyond.

I love my RJ Martin designs, as you know, and the in house stuff from Tualatin, but this one is really spectacular.

Bodes well for future knives from our friends.

Hi Bodog,

I'm going to respectfully ask you to stop posting in this thread. You got the other thread closed which did a disservice to people who enjoy this knife.

People have a right to discuss knives they like with others of the same mentality, there is no need for you to come in here just to incite anger.

People have differing opinions and it show a lack of maturity to troll them for it. Why go up to a guy with a Mercedes and say "my Kia soul is just as good as your Mercedes sl55amg and cost less". What's the point? Let people enjoy their hobby and stop being a hater.

Create a 0454 hater thread, but leave this one to people who enjoy it. You wouldn't like people trolling your knives. Quite frankly, it's pretty clear the vast majority of people prefer the zt 0454 to the knife you taught. That's also fine, accept it.

Made larger for those with selective reading issues.

I have removed 14 posts from this thread for the sake of maintaining on topic. If I or another mod have to come back and baby sit one more time, I will make sure that the offenders are issued nonexpiring high point infractions.

I hope this stays on topic, next off topic comment gets a 20 point infraction, any takers?

FYI, it's usually not one person who gets a thread closed down, it's that one (or few) and everyone else responding and feeding into it. If you want a gigantic thread about a knife and don't want it to be closed, you have to know when to not take the bait.

LOL, Here the post mqqn was referring to -
"I will admit that when I first saw the 0454, I had mixed feelings about it. All that changed once I got my hands on one. The feel of it in hand and the action were enough to convince me that I really needed to have one. And now that I do have one, I can say that I am glad that I do. It is really an impressive knife, I cannot imagine that the designer is anything less than ecstatic with ZT's execution of his design. The comparison to custom knives is silly since the range of custom quality is based on the skill of the custom knifemaker. There are customs out there that barely reach the quality of gas station knives, and there are customs out there that deserve to be in museums as the finest examples of craftsmanship. Looking closely at my 0454 I'd have to say it is certainly, easily at the very top tier of production knives and ranks up there with many highly regarded custom knifemakers. As to value, I'd say it is worth more than I paid, and when it comes down to it, an item's monetary value is what someone is willing to pay for it, not what someone else is not willing to pay.

It won't go cheap, most bids come in in the last few seconds. In fact it's already over 700, I'd wager it will hit 900.

The bids that come in in the last 3 to 6 remaining seconds of an auction are automatically sent in by people using automated preset sniping programs.
Unless it's 'buy it now', I've used a sniping program for the last 10 years.

I've been drooling over this knife since the news of it at Blade last year, waiting for it to come out. I was fortunate enough to get one. Like others, I'm impressed how light it is! Not planning on using it, just a show/conversation piece, I have plenty of ZT users I love.

Only thing I'd have liked better is if the D2 parts were coated black instead of gray. Anyone else?

I like mine the way it is. Technically its not coated its a forced Patina that darkens the D2

Thanks, I should know that by now lol I think I read it in the last thread, but I got too caught up in all the drama to pull anything useful out of that thread.

Why did they choose a tool steel over a "premium" steel like S30v or elmax? Is it because of the patina thing?

Thinking about it, I guess a coating is cheesier than patina...

How about the red lines, what are those? The welding medium?

You can bid yourself up to the last second too, without a program. I've done so many times.

CPM-D2 is better than both of those, just not as stain resistant.

If you keep it very lightly oiled, not only will the patina be nice and dark, but you'll have less issue with the patina rubbing off.

D2 is semi-stainless. I find it much easier to maintain than ZDP-189.
