A new ZT 454 Thread for people who enjoy it

Thanks for all the great posts guys.. I love this knife. Before it came out I posted a thread about the release date and time.. then when it happened I was out of town for a wedding and I missed it!.. lol.. oh well. I'll save up and hopefully i'll be able to buy one off the forums one day. For now, all these pics are great. Thanks to Revdevil for doing some serious "cat herding" and letting us keep this thread open

If you keep it very lightly oiled, not only will the patina be nice and dark, but you'll have less issue with the patina rubbing off.

D2 is semi-stainless. I find it much easier to maintain than ZDP-189.

I'd thought about oiling it, I think I'm going to try that.

Took out some knives and bookend them with the 0454s, enjoy!

My 0454 just came in, to say that I am impressed is a understatement.

Hey, what knife is that all the way on the right in the second pic? (The one with the recurve)

that is the latest generation direware solo flipper. It has bronze lscf, bronze titanium frame and mike norris damascus blade. its a beautiful knife man and extremely expensive but the 0454 is a better flipper, action wise. It would be very hard to choose between the two if I had to, but consider this: the zt 0454 on the 2ndary market $850-950, the direware on 2ndary market would be well north of $2500 if you can find one. That says a lot about the quality of the zt 0454, given most of us paid $510.

Here's a couple quick shots with my Socom Delta. They are very similar in size and profile but the SD is a bit heavier. Before the 0454 arrived this was the smoothest action knife I owned.

@ pittknife do your 2 0454's feel the same? My 2 were much different as far as detent strength goes.

They are different. Both flip out like rockets but you can feel the difference. The pivot was tightened differently on each with one dropping freely to close, the other needs a little shake. The detent is very strong on both though.

I took some nano oil to the detent ball, applied pressure to the lockbar and worked the detent track a little. Definitely helped.

I purchased one back in June off somebody that won the blade show lottery. Then, got the 2nd when they actually went on sale.

The knife is a great carry knife so far, and the fact that's it's photogenic is fun as well:

As usual, I continue to jump on any opportunity to shoot a reflection shot:

The pics in this thread are awesome but yours are just insane! We executed!!!

@pittknife..Thanks for the response. Those are some seriously awesome knives. One day I'll have stuff like that, but for now it's great to just see what's out there. That direware is absolutely fantastic.. right up my alley. I can only compare things to the 0562cf, which is the most high end knife ive ever handled. I can't wait to have a chance to experience things like that direware and the 0454. I've been obsessed with the olamic wayfarer.. but that direware might actually motivate me to save my pennies

Thanks bro. If you ever get a chance I suggest trying the following before the Direware:
1. The middle knife is my RJ Martin Q36, it is my grail knife. I've yet to come across a knife that I love as much. There is a good reason why that RJ cost more than the Direware. the zt 0454 actually feels pretty similar the RJ from a balance stand point.
2. The Shirogorov Mod 95 on SRBS is one of the most amazing knives I've ever handled. It is the smoothest and fastest flipper, with the zt 0454 right behind it. In fact the zt 0454 is the closest knife to the Shiro in flipping action/feel.

I know this is going to sound crazy to most people but I prefer the ZT 0454 to the Direware. It is a better flipper, easy to carry and feels amazing in hand. Als the zt is 1/4 the price and a lot easier to get than the Direware. I'm all about the flipping action and the zt 0454 is just a half step below a shirogorov, rj martin or andre thorburn in my opinion.

*BTW that zt0562cf you got is also amazing. I love that knife and just sent mine to get pimped with mokume and thunderstorm kevlar. I'm in the market for a 2nd one now.
