Allan Blade

The guy that just got banned got booted because he posted about using a knife as a weapon...not for posting a question about Blade.

Notice that no one at BB is coming to Blade's defence anymore...or stepping up to say they'll pre-pay for knives like they were before.

Personally I'm sorry to see that Blade without even trying has driven a wedge between to great forums.

To whom are you referring?

It would be interesting to know the real motivation behind bb supressing the information.

-Pride? Lack of Integrity? Denial? Collusion? All of the above? (perhaps not- but that is the impression given by such behavior)

-Perhaps Censorship allows Martyn the illusion/delusion of not having been duped by an asshat conman, despite having been aptly warned?

Using his forum to promote said Asshat- when everything goes his way, then shutting down any attempts to complain about getting ripped off. . . hmmmm. . .

Communism, anyone?

Embarassment? Cohorting? Kickbacks? Corruption? Political agenda?

I've stayed out of this because my issues with Blade were small compared to people here who are out real money, but I read this last post at BB and just about fell off my chair:

"...locked the previous Allan Blade thread as the issue had gone on for too long without resolution and it was felt that using BB to discuss this was inappropriate...."

Using a knife forum to discuss issues regarding a knife maker (positive or negative) is..."inappropriate"?

I was ticked off, and disappointed, when I read so many nasty personal comments about BF over there, but that rationale for closing a thread is just lame. :thumbdn:

I agree. Weak, very weak. Let's all just wash our hands of issues if they are unresolved for some length. The world functions great this way. Especially if your an ostrich with your head in the sand. :jerkit:

The guy that got banned was named gunga-dinn (from Alaska)or something along those lines (i'm not gonna go look it up). He posted two new threads...one asking about a knife he could use as a weapon and how he could get ahold of Blade so he could pre-pay for a knife. Screams "troll" to me. He was banned for the weapon thread as far as I can tell.

Next, there were half a dozen guys offering to "buy" other peoples spots in the line-up and offering to pre-pay for knives from Blade. No word from them for quite a while.

Sorry beef I was refering to the two threads started by gunga-dinn from Alaska not the original Allan Blade threads. Seemed odd they locked the Blade thread but kept the other one open so they could all give him a good slagging off.

This is something that perplexed me. The Allan Blade knives I've seen have looked like decent, basic fixed blades to me. Nothing particularly special about them. I wonder why he's so popular at BB?

I had wondered that too, nice enough looking knives but can't see what is so special about them????

The appeal is the fact that they are so inexpensive. I have always wondered how Allan could make any money with the prices he charges. His prices start about $60.00, and he has more than one model under $100.00. I think people feel that it is worth the risk to get a high quality knife for a low price. For some this has ended well. For others it has been a disaster.

i guess he was posting some on the BB forum, hanging with them, and they started thinking of blade as " one of ours"??

who knows?

Heh, I just got tipped off as to this thread from elswhere. I was the last post on BB I think before the one Allan Blade thread got locked :p.

I also questioned how it was clogging things up. Seemed perfectly pertinent to me. Folks asked about the knives and status and people were answering. For a while Allan was even replying. As has been mentioned I think it makes sense for folks to talk about not only the knives but availability and delivery times from a maker on a knife forum. It certainly helps potential customers make an educated decision as to whether to order from a maker or not. That's just me I guess though.

As to why order from Allan, the cost to knife quality is certainly it. Allan does make a great knife for a great price. I ordered my first one from him about two years ago. I'd read all the previous horror stories but also read that he'd gotten his act together and I decided to give him a chance. He responded to e-mails promptly, we hashed out the design I wanted (a slighted modded Scandi Pack Pal), and he qouted me a 6 week time frame. Sure enough he delivered right on time, called me when it was ready and we chatted on the phone a bit, and the price was ridiculously low. The knife is exactly what I wanted and very well made too. It's still one of my favorites.

So, I decied to get a second one about 6 or 8 months later. This time around it was a different story. I won't go into the details again if you saw the BB post but suffice it to say I'm still waiting.

From my e-mail contacts with him, and brief conversation with him, Allan seems like a nice guy and he does good work. It just seems like he gets in over his head and doesn't quite seem to know how to get out of it easily again. I dunno.

I don't have a lot of money invested but it still bugs me to be so far out from the projected due date with a lot of broken promises that it'd be done at varying times after that and then a long period of no response at all to posts or e-mails. I'm pretty reasonable really as long as I know whats going on. Not having updates for months, and having polite inquiries ignored does bug me though.

I'm holding out hope that I will eventually get something. :(
