Another Paypal Discussion

I have had more than one buyer offer to pay with gift option, even though in my sales thread I put I would not take it.

I just respond that it costs the same either way, and I don't take gift.

I wish that every seller would demand PayPal gift or plus 4%; that would keep me from the exchange completely. I will never send PayPal gift, I am buying a knife not sending money to a friend.

You been here a month, wheres your rep ?

I have purchased on more than one occasion using PP goods and NOT received the purchase and PP did NOT back it.

I'm no expert but I would guess that if PP was getting so much money stolen, they would remove the gift option.

You said it yourself, I'm new here - I have never advertised a knife on this site, and I've only purchased a few. What does that have to do with anything? If you want to check my rep - go to the site on which I conduct business.

As far as PayPal not backing it - check one of my recent posts in this thread...I already addressed that. Their so called protections aren't as hot as a lot of people think.

If they're not hard to stick to, they're not really principles.

Indeed. There are a number of reasons I won't buy from someone. It does practically nothing except stroke my superego because there will always be someone right behind me to pick up the piece I really wanted from a rude seller breaking the rules. Such is life, at least till those with jurisdiction over such matters make a change, but that's completely up to them. Until then, I'll be waiting on my high horse with less knives than everyone else. But hey, at least I know my superego is super bigger than everyone else's...

I agree with you. I don't think the interests of paypal are what we should be trying to protect. Rather, we should be protecting our own interests. Hence, if you use PP gift then you are surrendering any remedy against a unscrupulous seller. In that situation, you need to be damn sure you trust the other party.

Is it 100% full proof? No but beats nothing.

I think that if a person is truly concerned about "rep" they would never ask for PayPal Gift, for as they do they break their contract with Paypal, to whom they give their word by agreeing to the contract. What is their word worth then? Its not about getting back at PayPal, because if you truly were you would simply stop using Paypal services. How good your word is, falls at the heart of your "rep". If you easily break your contract with PayPal, it should send flags up that what's to stop you from doing the same to a seller or buyer? JMHO

Is this "Another Paypal Discussion" or the "Read Grizzley Repeat Himself Discussion"?

Why you should avoid the gift option unless sending an actual gift:

1. It violates PayPal terms thereby cheating them of their fee for facilitating your deal.
2. It sets a bad example for newer members who don't realize the risk of losing PayPal protection on a bad deal.
3. It is unnecessary since the seller could have offered a total price including shipping and handling, insurance, PayPal, and cost of the item.

But go ahead, do it your way, don't let me coerce you into doing it the easy way for both buyer and seller.

what else is there to say. repeat after Esav.

Seriously, if you don't fine. . Your entitled to your opinion. not to the facts.

PP gift not for goods. That is a fact.

If I really want the item I simply add 4% to the price to cover myself. Pretty cheap insurance. If the item is expensive enough that the 4% starts to matter to me I'll go get a postal MO or a bank check for the $1 or so.

I don't like the "gift" thing and just wish people would price things at what they really want for it. Don't tell me; $300 for the knife, $14 for shipping, 4% for paypal fees, $5 for my time it ship it, $4 for gas (you get my point). Price it at $340 if that is what you need and be done with it!

As I said in another thread I used to ask for GIFT because paypal really doesnt like sellers outside of US LOL but now after reading several of these forums I feel you guys are right and have changed my views on paypal. What do you guys do then if someone ask for a better price than the all inclusive price?? I am thinking about asking then for GIFT payment but then I have good feedback score I dont see why someone would be concerned about buying from me??? I can see this GIFT or GOODS PP payment discussion really regarding to new sellers. all in all you guys have changed my thoughts about it and hopefully my future buyers appreciate the new price scheme

If you have an all inclusive price and someone asked you for a better price, contact PayPal and ask the if they are willing to forfeit their fee. If they say yes, you are good to go.

Do you not see how ridiculous it is for you to suggest if you don't want to except less money for your goods that another party should forgo their profit. Have you no morals?

I see your point sorry I was not thinking right.

I have passed up knives the minute I saw PayPal Gift. I simply can't trust someone who insists on me-- the buyer-- helping them violate their agreement with PayPal. If they're that concerned about the 3% or so, they should just build it into their price. I actually prefer USPS Money Order over PayPal, because then we're dealing with federal mail fraud laws. If I'm selling, I definitely prefer the MO. I don't lose 3%, the MO is same as cash for me, and the buyer is protected by federal law since I like my voting and gun rights and don't want to lose them to a federal felony of mail fraud.

Pellel2, thank you for doing that. I learned the same way. You know your bottom line. Don't sell it if you can't cross it. If its an emergency, well move the line.

Don't assume there won't be more offers. If its a good price on a quality knife. Market says. Someone will buy it.

Obviously he does , otherwise he wouldn't even be considering doing the right thing.

If I see an ad with PP gift I always ask or give n offer with PP goods. 75% of people accept an all inclusive price. It doesn't hurt to ask first before posting you will take it.

Doing a little research on the member you are dealing with May go a long way. How long have they been a member? What is their reputation, etc? Not foolproof but it can help.

Is'nt that the reason of having feedback.

All I know is this, A guy bought a fixed blade knife from me using PP goods. When he received the knife, examined it and concluded the knife did not fit the sheath correctly, he filed a claim with PP. He then contacted me to let me know that he was not happy with the purchase. He then asked me what I wanted to do. After suggestions on the sheath issue to correct it, I stated if that will not work, return the knife for a refund. He was relieved to hear that and stated he filed a claim with PP which was unknown to me at the time. I was at work. When I got home, there were several emails from PP about the claim. They seized my funds( had them being transferred to my bank at the time), I called PP to see what the next step was. I agreed through PP to issue a refund. They held that amount out and sent the rest to my bank, only after I contacted them. Now, the buyer had to provide a tracking number on the return trip. The funds will be held until the knife is back in my possession, once I contact PP to confirm the knife is as sent, then PP will release the money to the buyer. If it is not as sent, I can continue the claim and PP will sort it out.
And that my friends is why one should use PP through a invoice or goods. The seller and the buyer have recourse. And that is worth the extra fee I don't mind paying for.

It is; but feedback isn't foolproof. There been numerous cases where people with positive feedback/good reputations turned the corner and and totally lost their s**t, taking multiple people's money and not delivering. (*note: I don't know the history here, so I am not speaking about this site)
