I really, really tried to use my beloved ebony "The Rider" as proof that I did not need another 86 covered in wood. It didn't take.I am being a bit sarcastic.
That being said the 86 has been run 3 times in the last 5 years. With many knives and variants produced.
Now M&G historically has not sold out fast. Most runs are available for days and months after release. Mostly due to the premium price and the fact that many in the hobby don't know about them. The exception being the 35 trapper run, and it was still available for a couple of hours and not minutes like other drops.
If I had known about the M&G run before I purchased the smooth bone rider I would have made different purchasing decisions myself. Both knives are beauties so it's no loss for me. I hope everyone enjoys their knives.
For me, the 86 is a grail pattern - perfect size in hand and pocket, perfect pull weights, satisfying heft, pinchable, aesthetically gorgeous proportions, and capable for most everything I use a folding knife for - and, while I love the single-blade configurations, the addition of the fantastic punch to this most recent run, with its attendant utility and increased "thicccness" puts it squarely in a class of its own.
It would be hard for me to have FOMO for a pattern I already own a few examples of, but FOWIMHTPLIIDBIN (Fear Of What I Might Have To Pay Later If I Don't Buy It Now) is very real, clear, and present.
