Any Winkler fans?

Boru is correct. The first run of the Highland Hatchet and Knife was made with the Quarter Sawn White Oak and was numbered. It was a special edition they did a few years ago. The knife came with a sheath with the Highlander logo and some Highlander stickers.

I wish they could do more in the oak but they reserve it for limited editions.

I thank you for that information. It did look way different. Very likable look. There are people that really know their wood. I’m not on that list…

The forest edge almost looks like a smaller Highland Hunter in the same way a BRH looks like a smaller Belt Knife?
Not sire why the Forest Edge isn’t listed on the WK web site?

Sort of. The Forest Edge is definitely smaller but has more handle. I'll take some comparison pictures later.
I think they aren't up on the site yet because they don't have a production run yet for pictures. But you can order them. I know this because I ordered one a while back after stopping in the shop and talking about it and holding one in my hand. I'm still waiting for that one, and I came across this one in Oak and couldn't pass it up.

They always have 2 or 3 in the case at their awesome retail store. Would just like to see it on the site to look at the dimensions for comparison sake.

Here is the Forest Edge compared to the Highland Hunter. I don't think they are that similar and I wouldn't say the Forest Edge is a smaller version of the Highland Hunter. The Highland is definitely bigger and the handle is thinner.

And here's a pic of the Belt Knife, Blue Ridge Hunter, and SD1. These are very similar other than the size.

Definitely not exactly the same but there are som similarities.
The BK, BRH, SD1 all same but i think the BRH has the most extreme angled thumb ramp. I loved buying my SD1 as i found the thumb ramp was less steep. I like that better actually or i would have bought the SD2 with no ramp at all.

I just started looking into Winkler and recognize some of you from other brand sub forums. So, for the guys (like me) who don’t own a Winkler but are interested, how does the steel perform in comparison to your other knives? I have looked at a lot of reviews on YouTube but they are mostly just a showing of the styles and in some cases comparing one model to the other but not much in the way of how the blade performs and how much use between edge touch ups. They look fantastic. I think they look old when new (in a good way). Possibly vintage is a better term. I have other fixed blades that perform really well but nothing with this level of old school character. Have you moved away from some of your other blades once you tried Winkler? I’m always trying new ones and have a SD2 in tribal maple in the mail as we speak. Thanks in advance

Jmho Winkler is more of a camp/combat knife not what i would call a slicer. Since i don’t camp or do combat or hunt for that mater i don’t use it enough the say how well the blade steel performs.
Funny story. My son needed a knife to cut something while installing lights in our pantry. I handed my SD2 i was carrying and he cut something and said it’s not very sharp is it. 10 minutes later he shows me a nice sliced finger thankfully still attached to his hand dripping blood. I guess it’s deceptive as the edge angle feels thick not thin like a razor.
Does any of that make sense to anyone that owns a WK?
I would imagine an Operator would be slicey though in my opinion a SD2 is sorta like a shorter version of an Operator?
