Anyone else looking forward to the GEC #83?

My dealer got some fine Sambar drop-points in after all.:cool: One is crossing the Atlantic to Europe now even though it naturally cost more than other options, I wanted to have a thicker handle than the non stag versions. Really hope I chose the right one....

Mine in ebony arrived today, and it's awesome :D Can really see why they call it a little lock back.

Came with a pretty decent edge, and took less than five minutes on my Sharpmaker's F and EF rods to bring it to shaving sharp :)

Now waiting for the Northfield in cocobolo to arrive.

Yea, I just in the last few years have been able to not pick one thumbnail, but it breaks every so often. Sure glad I learned about knife picks, they're so much better than tryin' to open a blade with a dime or penny. :)

Just got my drop point in micarta, and I shouldn't have worried, easy to just pinch open, nice and smooth. Really great knife for me. I have to agree these are near perfect little knives. If I was to find a nit to pick I can hold it up to the light and see a gap that way but almost every knife I own has that, TCs, etc. Perfect blade centering, bolster transition is smooth can't feel even the slightest edge. Very happy with it. And quick shipping (Thank you Berry) Now just waiting on my clip to arrive to see if I can make myself choose between them :D

They not only look good they must be the most durable of all the covers. A real life-time pocket carry. Hope you can keep both because it's gonna be tough to decided. Good luck.:)
 
Thank you, the other one is an orange bone clip from KSF. It will be a tough choice.. just might have to break my own rule. Didn't know what to expect from the micarta honestly. 1st one. I love the color.. thought there would be more texture? But that's not a good or bad for me.. I am very happy with it. All the beautiful stag being posted is tempting me too :)
 
I ordered a Yellow Rose Drop Point yesterday. Now I see there was a 7 piece run of Yellow Rose Drop Points with satin blade finishes. Didn't see that one coming. I'm sure I'll be delighted with my polished blade variant but I would have gotten the satin blade if I would have known.

Were these announced or was this a surprise?
 
Mark, let's hope this winter doesn't match last year. Do these feel smooth on open/close? Of the 2 videos out there, it seems like these are a notch up from what they've made in the past. I'm still wondering if this will replace my 81.

I know what you mean Drew. My issue isn't so much a rule but a self imposed monthly budget, which I surpass more often than I care to admit.
I bet you won't have any problem finding a buyer for any 83 if you decide you want to sell.
If you like textured micarta look for the canvas micarta, they're usually produced really grippy. I got a couple of them and they are great.

There are several different handle materials in the satin blade .....different dealers.

I know the Tidioutes have satin blades but I was referring to the Northfield Yellow Rose variant. It is offered in both polished and satin blades. Are you seeing other 83's in both finishes with the same handle material?

I have seen the Cocobolo, Sambar Stag, Yellow Rose and the Autumn Leaf. Sambar Stag was only in satin blades I think. Lot are gone but some remain....pm me if you need to know.

I think you may be talking about a short run of NF with satin blades. There are a few left at a certain dealer who had some or all of 7 yellow rose, 16 stag and 4 autumn leaf. Email me and I can tell you where they are.

Thanks James. Yes, it was the 7 piece Yellow Rose run that I was referring to. They showed up on that website the day after I ordered my Yellow Rose #83. I commented that I would have bought the satin blade variant instead if I had known they existed. I also did not know about the other satin blade Northfield variants.

I think we are looking at the same website.

I was refering to the short runs. What Tidioutes did you see in satin finish? I didn't see any....
