Anyone else looking forward to the GEC #83?

Mine in ebony arrived today, and it's awesome :D Can really see why they call it a little lock back.

Came with a pretty decent edge, and took less than five minutes on my Sharpmaker's F and EF rods to bring it to shaving sharp :)

Now waiting for the Northfield in cocobolo to arrive.

Mike, I've got its twin in my watch pocket right now :)

Nice little blades, for sure, and not a bit of blade play in mine!

Some satin Northfields are still coming thru. Not parts knives, just had a stain or something (guessing) on the blade during finishing process and had to go back thru for a satin blade. Have seen some Drop Point Stag, Clip Stag, Cocobolo Clip and Yellow Rose Clip. They couldn't call a Natural Stag by that name with a satin blade; so are calling it Sambar Stag. All Tidioutes have been satin.

I think we are on the same page concerning the short runs.

That's what I was thinking as well. None of the Tidioute blades are polished as far as I know.

I had my head up my wazooo. You guys are correct on the satin finishes on Tidioute. Sorry.

I think these 83s are really nice. Time will tell, but I believe it has the potential to be my all-time favorite from GEC. I got an ebony drop-point from Barry / gunstockjack, and then ordered a clip-point in micarta for backup.

I was also impressed with the factory sharpness. I have not been adding to the knife collection much recently, but this is one of the best edges I have seen from GEC. I almost always sharpen a new knife to my preferred edge specifications, but this one I am using as-is until it needs to be sharpened.

Well, I told myself I would grab a natural stag clip if I found serial #s 2, 4, or 10. My path never crossed with them.

So, if who ever grabbed them could post a pic so I can convince myself on how ugly and terrible those three are, I would appreciate it. :D

For anyone who has both a drop point and a clip, are there any small differences in blade dimensions---length, width, and thickness?

Thanks,

Andrew

I contacted Chris at GEC with my question above and here is her response:

Here is what the boss told me.....both blades are the same thickness and the clip blade might be just a fraction taller than the drop point but not much

Really liking the yellow rose! It's been riding along for the last week. I was dropping it in my watch pocket, but after a trip through the washing machine, it's now in the right front!

I'm not sure I would go THAT far to get a decent patina ... :D

Ha - that's funny! You gotta do what you gotta do..... :D

Thankfully, I already had a good patina going from pears & peaches - the wash cycle did not appear to affect anything, although the action IS a little smoother now!

My two... I knew this was going to be a near impossible choice once I had them both... I was suprised that the PPP stamp was not on the clip camel bone? Is that because it was an SFO?

You're lucky it didn't mess up the bone, all that banging about and detergents:eek::barf:

Drew fine rich colour on that Camel Bone, very nice looking example indeed.

Only THREE days into the wait for mine, feels like one of those endless tasks/tortures in Greek mythology, aaarghh!:D

Has anyone received a clip blade cocobolo 83 yet? Does the clip point blade have the PPP etching?

onespdfrk, that is one clean Yellow Rose,:D:) I like.

First time I've seen a clip next to the drop point, you're not helping me Drew.:eek::D:)
I thought I'd ordered my last 83 and they're all drop point. Now I'm starting to have 2nd thoughts about adding "just one more"... that clip is looking real good.

The 3 P's are only on the very first run of a new pattern. In this case that is the Drop Point Tidioute Cutlery Knives. Anything after those is not the "Pattern Premier Production".

First I'd like to say hello. I've been lurking for a while and enjoying everyone's comments and photos. I finally bit the bullet and ordered my first GEC knife (actually knives). The new #83 Northfield clip blade in Natural Stag and Yellow Rose. I just received the stag today and the Yellow Rose is shipping tomorrow. I just opened the package and the knife has exceeded all my expectations. Beautiful, solid, and worth every cent. I took a quick photo and I sure hope this works.
