Anyone else looking forward to the GEC #83?

I have a question for those with a Northfield clip and drop point. Is the clip blade easier to open due to the slightly higher long pull? Also, does the tip sit closer to proud on the clip blade?

I feel like any difference is so small that it probably shouldn't be a factor for you. I think the aesthetics involved should be the bigger issue for people to consider when deciding. But, since your question is about function, here goes. I think the biggest difference in function is that the nail nick is slightly more forward (close to the blade tip) on the drop points (both in Northfield and in Tidioute). It means more leverage, so the blade "feels" easier to open. But let's face it, these little knives so easy to open anyway. The part of the nail nick that is farthest forward on the Northfields.... yes, it's just a little bit higher above the handle cover in the case of the clip point. But again, we're talking very, very small differences. As far as the tips....my drop points are no more or less proud than my clip points.

Hope this helps.

My two... I knew this was going to be a near impossible choice once I had them both... I was suprised that the PPP stamp was not on the clip camel bone? Is that because it was an SFO?

Interesting, I had not noticed that my orange Camel Bone didn't have the PPP. But you are correct. However, I don't think it's because it's a SFO. My black Camel bone SFO from KSF does have the PPP.

The 3 P's are only on the very first run of a new pattern. In this case that is the Drop Point Tidioute Cutlery Knives. Anything after those is not the "Pattern Premier Production".

Makes sense--thank you!

Wow, dispatch, that orange bone looks nice. Not as bright as in the KSF pics. Looks a little more...classy?

Which is not good, because now I'll try to rationalize buying one.

I had the same issue. Couldn't look past the ppp etch and the video on knivesshipfree convinced me the ebony drop point was worth buying. But the clip points in all these patterns are just plain sexy so I am reconsidering the order!

So far I have a drop point in ebony and clip point in camel bone and in Autumn jig bone either bought or reserved, and am fighting the urge not to add the clip point in cocobolo.

What is the record for the number of GEC knives bought by a first time customer in a calendar year?

I have no idea what the record is , but right now I have bought and paid for 13 and have 3 more 77's Reserved that will be here before long and with Christmas still coming , we may not be done yet. And I would bet that that is not a record.

Mark, Alan, great knives!

I love the #83s stag (I've got one, another one is still "on the boat") and yours are looking spectacular!
Although I have to say that the orange bone and the autumn bone are very appealing in Mark's picture as well ...

... maybe I ... well, maybe not ... however ... mmh ...

(And beautiful picture as well, Alan!)

You know deep down in your heart that you NEED an Autumn Bone'!!!!!!!!!!

These are growing on me... I'm still worried about the size, but these comparison pics showing the same amount of blade as a #15 in a shorter handle make them more appealing. Can't wait for the NF clips to start trickling in. I'll have to scour the secondary market though, I'm tapped at the moment.

Thank you sir, the irony is I no longer have the orange bone. I made a trip out to KSF and for the first time had some hands on time prior to buying. The orange was beautiful but walked out with a black camel drop point, a purple sage jig bone clip. I still have the micarta drop as well. Will post pics when I make it home. These 83s are wallet trouble!

Thanks Bob and Drew. The Autumn Leaf is new to me today. I like it more than I thought I would, which is saying alot.

My Tidioute in ebony arrived today. A very nice well made knife. Mine came with no etch at all. The ebony is a 10 on the scale for "worry stone" factor. Smooooth. I don't think it will replace my 81 stockman for edc, but it will definitely be a Sunday go to meeting knife and out on the town. Probably keep it mint as I can as its a beauty. It is also shaving sharp. Mark those stags have to be exceptional.

My trio. I was suprised by how much I loved the jigged sage clip in person, great F&F and coloring. Lockbacks were not even on my radar, I am sure glad I listened to all of your glowing reviews on this pattern : ) lighting was kinda funky for pics, aplogies.

The first picture of the purple sage jigged bone and a favourable comment!

I was beginning to think this thread should have been titled 'anyone else not looking forward to the GEC #83 (in purple sage jigged bone)? '
