Anyone else looking forward to the GEC #83?

Hey guys, I need your help!

I can afford one more #83, and so far I don't have a clip blade. So should I go for an ebony Tidioute or an Autumn Bone Northfield?

Thanks for your feedback!

You already have STAG NF Drop-point, isn't that so? (I'm still waiting for mine.....)

Then I'd opt for the Tidioute Ebony. Why? Never seen a Tidioute knife in Ebony that didn't look a treat, goes well with the simple understated Tidioute lines and shield. It's very durable and can take a hardy life. The NF bone is very good but it's similar in finish, appearance and feel to the stag (but thinner) I'd want a contrast.

Here's my Ebony White Owl to help force your hand:D

The first picture of the purple sage jigged bone and a favourable comment!

I was beginning to think this thread should have been titled 'anyone else not looking forward to the GEC #83 (in purple sage jigged bone)? '

So true, but I think the purple sage might be the ugly duckling of the bunch. Not getting much notice initially but one who's beauty may become apparent down the road. I ordered one yesterday along with a Cocobolo.

My trio. I was surprised by how much I loved the jigged sage clip in person, great F&F and coloring.

A drop point in purple sage was the first #83 I picked up-- literally. I didn't buy it, but did get to hold it in my hay-ands at the GEC factory, where it (and its brethren, revisited before Decision Time) was a strong rival for the ebony version that eventually won out.

Having seen purple sage #83s in person, I've had to look twice at the descriptions accompanying almost every vendor's pictures, because the covers almost invariably look very different (and less attractive) in photographs-- they seldom capture what I remember seeing and wanting.

In person, the coloration and variegation in the purple sage bone, subtle and compelling, makes the first impression, while the jigging-- which jumps out starkly in pictures-- does not seem as (over)pronounced in proportion to the knife's size and lines.

I look forward to more in-hand pictures and impressions.

Maybe my own. ;)

Pertinux, well said. I would describe my findings (minus actually visiting GEC.. someday!!) in a similar way. I assumed I would grab an ebony or stag but then randomly asked to see the purple sage.. bazinga.. loved it. It is one you need to hold to appreciate. I will try and post up some better pics soon. Thanks all!

I would go with the Autumn Leaf. The jigging pattern on it is I think very unique.

I just received word today that my pre-ordered Cocobolo clip point Northfield is on its way.

Yaaaaaaaa!

It appears that this may be GEC's biggest run yet? With all the various cover options coupled with the 2 blade styles these would have to be pushing nearly 1,000 production units? Personally I would welcome the change to larger production runs of a given pattern, gives more buyers a shot at one and gives a little more time between new releases to save pennies!
