Anyone else looking forward to the GEC #83?

Here's an orange 83 that I bought to match my friend!

Onestarleather, Will, and burningcrow, I am liking that stag! cbr1000, your friend seems a little uncertain, but I believe you have an excellent color match!

Thanks P.

It's funny it matches him perfectly... maybe a little too much. He was very suspicious!

I really thought I was going to end up with 2 Cocobolos after trying a few.

Glad I stuck with these two. The yellow bone just seems right to me for the pattern.

These Roses came in SHARP!!

Received my Tidioute Purple Sage Jiggged Bone Satin Drop Point today. Was surprised to find it is a triple P version. Utter perfection in my book. Earlier talk of the Purple possibly being an "Underdog" caused me to look more at it. Was thinking to start with about another knife in Ebony or my first Cocobolo. Sure glad I went with Purple Sage. My sixth GEC knife with a sixth type of Scale. On this one, I'm going to let the patina come on its own, where on several other non SS knives I own I've forced patina or blued. :triumphant:

Love the purple sage, great choice sir!!

This pattern did not interest me initially, until earlier this week when I actually held one in hand... Boy, perfect size knife it is, totally a winner IMO. F&F is fantastic, though the pull is around 4 and I'd have preferred something around 6. Lovely, lovely knife!

Mine quickly became an every day knife; I love having it along.

I just added a lanyard:

I'm a big #83 fan, I haven't owned this one for very long, but its already got more pocket time than my Micarta Tidioute version...don't really know why. I'm a huge micarta fan but this one really does it for me.

Loved my Purple Sage out of the tube. Lovin' it more as time goes on. Definately EDC, also with multiple others, (different knives for different jobs) , even though not needed all the time, but I like them. Someone mentioned in another thread about carrying around a dozen, thought I was alone in that respect.

It's great stuff, yes?

(As for how many knives I carry on a given day? Usually more than is, er, called for. :oWhat to leave behind?!)

My earlier ramble in this thread, regarding Purple Sage:
A drop point in purple sage was the first #83 I picked up-- literally. I didn't buy it, but did get to hold it in my hay-ands at the GEC factory, where it (and its brethren, revisited before Decision Time) was a strong rival for the ebony version that eventually won out.

Having seen purple sage #83s in person, I've had to look twice at the descriptions accompanying almost every vendor's pictures, because the covers almost invariably look very different (and less attractive) in photographs-- they seldom capture what I remember seeing and wanting.

In person, the coloration and variegation in the purple sage bone, subtle and compelling, makes the first impression, while the jigging-- which jumps out starkly in pictures-- does not seem as (over)pronounced in proportion to the knife's size and lines.

I look forward to more in-hand pictures and impressions.

Maybe my own. ;)

I held out for three months. Points? :D

In addition to deciding to sate my enduring desire for purple sage bone on this pattern, I knew I'd enjoy comparing the clip and drop point blades. Such similar blade shapes....

For now, the drop point is still my favorite of the two, especially since I favor its nail nick placement-- and wish the clip blade's were forward, as well.

Unlike with other strong-springed patterns whose blades are aided in the increased leverage of a forward nick (not really a factor with these lockbacks), this is purely a matter of preferred aesthetics. I s'pose the clip blade wouldn't look as good with a more forward nick(?), but I like how the drop point's nick echoes the slight slope of the handle, while the clip blade's nick 'fights' the rising point in the middle.

A quibble, of course. :D

Sarah,

That's a nice looking combo. I started carrying mine again today. I really like this pattern.
