Anyone heard of this guy?

Yup, yup, yup, the "I am not going to show you any proof because you guys won't believe it anyway" defense!!!! Must go along with all the propaganda on your website like "Force Pro cell" and your one of custom abortion of a knife you list for over $750.

Shut us up with real proof, real evidence and real facts. Until then you are just another scammer looking to get rich off the backs of our fighting men and women members of the US Armed Forces. Proof of that is using a moniker like "J. Lightning" as if you are some type of Warrior.

A bunch of BS sales fluff and puffery , that's all and nothing more.

You should be ashamed of yourself Mr. PETERS..............

By the way I loved that line "IED alley", I am sure it's been called that often.

I just want to put all the info possible on this thread so that anyone who googles this product gets this thread as well.

Mr. lightning, an E3/4 will say anything you want for a free knife.:D

I think he should make another custom model called the "DEANIMATOR"

thanks for the comedy I enjoyed it.

Members of the Spanish Inquisition,

Maybe now everyone reading this will see and realize that the people screaming “scam” really have no idea about what they are talking about concerning anything, people or gear.

Good reason for people to be doing so.

The knife/gear is question can be had by any number of custom makers for half the price.

The banter splattered all over your web site is over the top fluff. Anyone that has truly "been there done that" would be embarrassed by this. To use it (more than likely un-truthfully) to sell an overpriced gadget is the work of a self loving narcissist at best, or a flat out fraud.

Per his review, Mr. Dick tried some features of the knife and speculated on others. His review reflects no outstanding performance whatsoever. It chops. It cuts. It drills. It saws badly, as per the type. I would expect any dead-typical big knife to do as well at a small fraction of the price -- except the poor sawing, saws on knives being relatively unusual.

And pardon me, sir, but what does military service tell us about your ability to somehow repeatedly heat-treat steel and come out with an excellent product? Was Paul Bos an "operator"?

Was Paul Bos an "operator"?
Funny! :D ... but also, an excellent point. Undoubtedly, people who use edged tools regularly, which includes forest workers at least as much as military, will have special needs, and generally learn which styles of knife suit them best. This gives them little insight into what it might take to make those tools, though.

However, I believe any ex-military personnel would be in an advantageous position to market their product to military organizations, PX or BX, and serving military themselves. One would hope they would display some integrity in doing so.

John Peters, you would make a great politician. You are absolutely great at avoiding answering any pertinent questions that people have asked you. You're advertising is hype that would make Cold Steel and Dark Ops proud.

Mr. Martinez would be returning the knife to you after testing it, so he isn't looking for a free Razr. Did you get the one you sent to Tactical Knives back?

Any decent large bladed knife will chop through barbed wire, so don't be too smug about that. That article in Tactical Knives is not a rave review of your product. It is a review that gives me the impression that your knife works well, but isn't anything special. I have read what I consider to be much more enthusiastic reviews of much less expensive knives.

By the way, who is J. Lightning?

He says the "attack" was unprovoked. By putting his website and advertising out there, he is soliciting response. He just didn't bargain on this response: 60,000+ knowledgeable knifeknuts finding him and calling him on his snake-oil act. The man is dumb enough to think the public is dumber than him. How dumb is that?

If he came to us the first time and said, guys, it's hype all right, but it is a great knife and if I can get the high dollar from enough buyers, I can build my business to where I need it to be. Since I've been getting sales, why would I lower the price?

THAT I could halfway respect, and then ... forget about him ... he's not making the knife I want. But getting defensive, and pretending that our reaction is the problem, he's just ducking and hiding.

Hi, I’m back. But only for a second, and ONLY because I received a very generous offer from one of you, NCO Martinez.
Mr. Martinez has graciously suggested sending him a Razr for impartial testing, he thinks he’s qualified. He may be, but not for a free Razr.
I'm not asking for a free knife. I offered to do an impartial test and compare it to some other knives I use as well as doing a pass around w/ some of my buddies. As far as being "qualified", there are many here who have BTDT far more than I- mine was simply an offer of having someone with a little bit of "creds" and being fairly well known here on this forum do a test. I am "verifiable" if that means anything and a few folks here know what I'm about. I'm not a super secret operator/ninja/deanimator/doctor/yu-ghi-oh character or even a social worker, but I can "hard use" a knife like a champ.:D
I'll pay postage both directions. Knife returned within 2 weeks of reciept and I will post pics as well as a review/testimonial you are welcome to use on your website if you so choose.
Again- ball's your court and consider the gauntlet thrown.;)
Aaron

Mr. Peters:

Once again some questions as to one's credentials and one's status as a self proclaimed tactical operator have been posed and complete silence has been the response with some of the same reasoning. "I don't have to prove anything to you", "You would not believe me anyway", 'I won't embarass my military customers" BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. We have been there, seen that and do not buy it. Silence means; you cannot answer!!

My guess is that some 50,000 or so knife liker types read GB&U on a regular basis and 75,000 read when there is some controversy. Is your business so good that you can diss this many knifeknuts in such a cavilier way? Is this self confidence, cockiness, or stupidity, you tell me!!

There are several real, tried and tested Operators (of the special forces variety) that read this forum. There are loads of members who serve or have served in the Military, serve or have served as First Responders, and many who are highly trained and experienced Wilderness experts who read here also. By not answering the questions posed to you it causes the many who are "qualified" that what you say is merely the fluff and puffery of a snake oil salesman.

We are your potential customers; convince us that you are the real deal and your knife is the real deal. Make us believe this is not a once nice TOPS knife that you have ruined by over heat treating, and modifying it willy-nilly and then over pricing it by some $300. Convince us that this is your design and the finished product started out as a piece of 1095 steel that you turned into a RAZR from scratch.

If not, you have proven to be just another shister looking to milk unsuspecting soldiers First Responders, and others out of their hard earned money with your bogus claims about "extra" heat treats, damascus steel and edge sharpness.

Of course Iexpect and await your silence. Prove me wrong!!:foot:

We seek the TRUTH! :grumpy:

 :p

You can't handle the truth! Oh, wait a minute - J. Lightning can't handle the truth! No, wait, uh, how about J. Lightning can't tell the truth! No, no, hold on, that's not it . . . maybe it's The truth hurts! Well, dang, that's not it either . . .

jeez . . . I got A headache . . .

thx - cpr

Only because you’ve attacked me, my stuff, even my home (what’s that got to do with anything?!?!?) and continue to so without provocation.
I stood up for myself and our stuff as anyone who takes pride in what they do and from what I’ve been told, you all got angry as hell!

We "attacked" your stuff because some (and that would be a good number of people here) of the "runny-nosed wanna-be's" actually do know what they're talking about, AND WILL back up their credentials if requested. You did not, and have yet to establish any credibility. But how would you know, you didn't do your diligence by reading all the posts on this thread.

We "attacked" you because at first we were having a little fun, perhaps at your expense, but mainly because we saw information/products that we have well thought out questions about. But how would you know, you didn't do your diligence by reading all the posts on this thread.
We "continue to do so without provocation". Excuse me? Now forget about reading the other posts, have you read your own post here? Nothing was even close to an onslaught of inflammatory remarks as your post, so in essence, you started it.

YOU said we (all of the people on the forum) "know nothing at all". How would you know, you didn't do your diligence by reading all the posts on this thread.

YOU said "I don’t have to ask any of you what any of you ever designed, invested in, or had the initiative to develop, ever, much less built with your own hands. Dumb question, I already know the answer: absolutely nothing."
Wow. Bad move. However, how would you know, you didn't do your diligence by reading all the posts on this thread.. See a pattern yet?

YOU said "what am I supposed to think other than.... you have no basis on which to make your opinions." But how would you know, you didn't do your diligence by reading all the posts on this thread.. I assume you're familiar with the word "redundant". Perhaps you're starting to get the picture.

I could respond to nearly everything you have posted here for your benefit, but it is obvious you don't read thoroughly. Otherwise you would be able to identify the valid questions in this thread and answer them, as several respected knifemakers/designers have already done in countless threads in these forums.

I will end with this challenge for you to try to rebut:

YOU DON'T BELIEVE IN YOUR OWN PRODUCT!!!

I'll use your own words.

"I’ve had enough field experience not to judge any equipment before I’ve spent at least a week or better in the weeds with it."
Okay, works for me. If you truly believed in your own product, you would have a much better guarantee than this, from your own website:

"The intent of this program is to assure the new
customers who have not seen our equipment, before purchase, that they are
purchasing extremely high quality gear, and are getting what they pay for.
Terms: you must make us aware immediately upon receipt of your intent to return
your purchase. You must then ship back to us within 24 hours, insured for the
purchase amount (for reasons that you are still responsible for the equipment until
we receive it), the entire order in new, unused condition.

I posted part of this earlier, But how would you know, you didn't do your diligence by reading all the posts on this thread.

So not only do you not read other's comments questions and fail to respond, I guess you don't even read your own stuff. That's quite the attention to detail you've got. Does that carry over to your product?

You have thousands of potential customers here. Quit blowing smoke.

And again, I heard nothing about anyone from your group ever picking up a Razr, much less using one.

razr review:

1. nice and slim, fits neatly in shirt pocket.
2. battery sucks, very short life.
3. the OPERATORS are all very polite, verizon is the best.

Members of the Spanish Inquisition...

<Photoshopped Image from Monty Python's Spanish Inquisition>

...one character, expressing irritation at being questioned by another, would announce "I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition!"

At this point the Inquisition—would burst into the room at the sound of a jarring chord. ...would shout, with a particular and high-pitched emphasis on the first syllable, "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!"

"Amongst our weaponry are such diverse elements as chopped up TOPS Screaming Eagles, over-priced para-cord wrapped Cold Steel Tantos, an almost fanatical devotion to heat-treating, and last but not least CEREBRUS 1 PRO-FORCE IED alleys!!!...

...J. Lightning AKA John Peters, we charge you with defrauding the Inquisition..."

Bushman thanks for a job well done...

The funniest part of this thread is seeing grown men act like kids in a name calling contest on the playground
Calling the guy a "fag"??
Anal assault by a manatee?
"anonymous asshole"
"Man-boobs"
So all you guys sitting in front of a Chinese made PC are in tip top shape right?
Would you like my comments on the Brian Jones avatar??
I have some bad stuff to say about his fashion ;)
"Anonymous assholes"
Most forums I am on don't allow "personal attacks"
I guess it's allowed here at BF??

I find it pretty pathetic that a MODERATOR would post his address
What purpose does that serve?

All this talk about "price gouging"
"Scamming our servicemen"
No one is twisting our serviceman's arms to buy the knife
If they want to pay what you people feel is a lot of money on knife let them
Why does it bother you guys so much??
Is this the first guy to exaggerate claims?
It's called creative marketing in my book
It's not your money being "scammed"
I bet for every one serviceman who feels "scammed" there is one who thinks it's a "sweet knife"

If you don't like the knife don't buy it
Don't worry about other peoples consumer choices
Why spend so much time and energy making personal attacks on some one just trying to make a buck or two??
Last I looked trying to make a profit is not illegal NOR immoral
(Maybe in Cuba or Venezuela it is considered such)

he'd better start off with way lower prices to let some folks try them out
Let the market dictate the prices
If his sales are low maybe he will adjust his price

He corrupts the name and copies it?
Good for him
I've you have legal patents or whatever then sue him
If not then I guess you just have to be angry the rest of your life

because you are a greedy sociopath with no conscience
They guy tries to make money and he is a sociopath?
There must be a lot of sociopaths on Wall Street I guess

Rip-off our servicemen who pay way too much
Define "way too much"
One mans "rip-off" is another man's "bargain"===>
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consumer_theory

scams our soldiers out of their money
So I guess you are saying the soldiers are stupid?
Can they see the pictures of the knives for sale?
Can they see the prices?
Are the shipping costs clearly stated?

If I was a soldier and got scammed by you, or you scammed a family member
Again with the scammed term
A very subjective term IMHO

could bamboozle enough poor soldiers into paying top dollar for a Pakistani junk knife
Looks like someone whipped out the thesaurus!!
I did get a kick out of that though
Bamboozled is such an under used term

he is ripping off TOPS
If this is true let the legal dept at TOPS take care of the issue
No need for you to lose sleep thinking TOPS isn't getting their due cut of the action

But the real fun is having the opportunity to fight here for our troops so they don't get ripped off and taken advantage of
Who mandated that YOU should fight for troops purchasing rights?
Again==>
Let the GROWN MEN (and women) make their own choices regarding cutlery purchases

That word is only used for elite special operations units
I don't see anything in Websters Dictionary about "elite special operations" under the term "operator"
Where did you get this info??
What military handbook?

If the guy is selling overpriced crap then the market will dictate his fate==>
He will go out of business for lack of sales
Anyone disagree with this assessment??

BTW
Before I get accused of being in cahoots with Mr. Lightning===>
Never been to Florida
Never even heard of J. Lightning until this thread
I kinda think his name is catchy
Easy to remember
Great technique to get name recognition I must say

If you people want to start personally attacking ME for my views then so be it
Just so you guys don't have to think too much here is some fodder for you all:
I estimate the fat content of my pectoral muscles is approximately 22%
I have never had sex with a MALE manatee
I live in a house not a cabin in Santa Barbara
I do have a house made out of cinder blocks in Colorado
My phone service is Nextel
I DO try and MAKE a profit when I sell knives (I sell 1 knife for every 10 I buy..BTW)
I have 2 Chinese knives, 1 Taiwanese, 1 German and one Pakistan/Buck 110 so called "knock-off" in my collection
I am registered independent but I lean towards the Libertarian Party on social issues and the Republican Party on economic issues
I drive a Toyota Tacoma and a Ford Bronco
I don't like Diane Feinstein
I have never spent over 62 bucks (with shipping) for a knife
I don't know who the fuck Bob Horrigan is nor do I care
I don't drink alcohol
I smoke Marlboro Lights
I often shop at Wal-Mart and throughly enjoy their low prices
Mr. Bernard R. Levine STILL won't let me call him Bernie
I use Google for my Bladeforum searches instead of paying the 10 bucks
I once caught one fish over the legal daily limit and gave it to my dad and told him to tell the game warden HE caught it if the heat comes a asking
I think Ron Paul needs to disappear
I got accused by the SBSO of being a reefer "enforcer" last March
(all charges dropped==>lack of evidence)
I have my drivers license address listed at my mom's house so I can avoid jury duty
I think O.J. IS innocent
I am agnostic
Nancy Grace annoys me
I lied to the unemployment office and told them I looked for a job that week
I am gonna use my 600 economic stimulus check that Gee Dubya is giving me on a Cold Steel Sharkie, a Honeycomb AND a Brooklyn Crusher and make a display case out of rain forest wood
I could care less if my chicken is free range
I doubt if any of you could find my address
But you can try....

Price gouging is a frequently pejorative reference to a seller's asking a price that is much higher than what is seen as 'fair' under the circumstances. In precise, legal usage, it is the name of a felony that applies in some of the United States only during civil emergencies. In less precise usage, it can refer either to prices obtained by practices inconsistent with a competitive free market, or to windfall profits. In colloquial usage, it means simply that the speaker thinks the price is too high. Non-pejorative uses are generally in reaction to what the writer believes is an unjustified restraint on the market.

I'll bid you all good night with a picture of MY IDOL just so you know where I'm coming from

Nope, Trent's no libby. Libertarian, based on some of his argument and his statement. He's been an excellent contributor to Bladeforums, and it took guts to come in here and make the counterpoint argument in a reasoned way, and call us on our conduct. The point was to make us think. I respect the hell out of him for it. Some of it is valid. Some of it I don't agree with (my fashion ;), OJ's innocence???, and a few other points). Plus, the whole end part made me laugh. Nancy Grace annoys me, too. There's something to be said for his "let the market dictate," argument, but there's something to be said about calling out dishonesty, too. Trent, this went from Wilderness to Whine & Cheese originally, which is when the fun started. That's the gloves off, say what you want forum. I consider it the "roast" forum. Whine and Cheese IS our playground. Then Cougar decided to move it here. We've been spanked, and we deserve some of it. I admit I felt the sting a little bit.

Whether we want to take up a fight for someone or some group is our choice, however, and calling a fraud a fraud if we see it is simply our right. The beauty of a free society is that we can appoint ourselves to speak out strongly for or against something we believe in. It's equally Trent's right to make his argument, and he did so intelligently, and with class. We just have to agree to disagree on some things. But he's right about our behavior.

I'm a grown man. I freely admit that I'm calling him a fag, and I think his attempt to copy my sheath terminology is gay.

I use the term fag and gay in the finest tradition of South Park, which probably has more to do with someone who's simply lame and pathetic.

I've had the knife in my shop. I don't care what people pay for it. I sheath all kinds of madness, from really great customs to 5.00 knives. I could care less.

People copy me all the time. I'll even tell them how to make the sheath. I welcome competition.

But lame competition?

Gay.

That was indeed a very long post, but most of it was talking about yourself and what a wonderful fellow you are, and most of the remainder was talking about the people who object to Mr. Peter's advertising and other business practices and what abominable fellows they are. The portion of that post that is pertinent is not very long at all.
