Anyone heard of this guy?

Trent, I agree with some of what you posted, and disagree with some of it, but the comment I quote below bothers me.

I don't know who the fuck Bob Horrigan is nor do I care

MSG Bob Horrigan was a top rate knifemaker that was killed in action in Iraq in 2003. He deserves much more respect than that flippant attitude of yours.

Yeah, but, in the end, whether someone thinks we're abominable or not doesn't really change the course of our lives or our plans outside the virtual world here.

Discussion boards are good for sharing info, debating, and stimulating thinking. And laughs. Then we go back to the real world and live our lives. The web's at its best when it serves as a means to bring people together outside the internet.

Here, we shared info about this guy, and we did it through lampooning and humor, and directly calling him out. And, we got called on it by Trent, and that's fine, too.

To take things too seriously online means we're spending too much time in front of the computer.

2005. And I missed this part of his post somehow. Good call.

In a nutshell Trent:

Nah, you are just flat wrong, the guy has gone way beyond sales pitch, period.

Trent's a pretty creative and very smart poster, and generally well-behaved. I've enjoyed reading his posts since he joined. He IS militant about his Libertarianism, though. God forbid anyone suggests interfering with the free market -- even by merely calling out frauds (I thought I was a Libertarian-leaning guy till I saw his posts)! I'm saying, I respect his views and the intelligence and wit with which he writes them.

This thread is ultimately about upholding honesty, right? Trent made a couple head shots on me in his post. It was accurate fire. I'd be lying if I denied feeling a little hot pang of "gotcha" a couple times while reading it. It pissed me off, but only because I couldn't duck. :D Other things, I didn't agree with.

So, I'm not gonna jump down his throat defensively because he nailed me on a couple things. I think he's just reminding us to keep our dignity and not sink TOO low. We don't want to sink to J Lightning's level.

Trent's longest post was at the link below. It could've been me at that age, only Trent is a better writer. Yes, it's all about him, but it's priceless, and it could be about many of us. It's one of the other reasons I can't be pissed at him...he captures that childhood fascination with knives and adventure really well.

Your right and I apologize to anyone I offended
I feel REALLY bad now knowing he died serving our country
I think part of it is my frustration at not being able to afford "custom" knives
As an outside observer it seems like there are all these names floating out there:
Darrell Ralph
Chris Reeves
Ken Elgin
Etc...
Maybe one day I will appreciate the names better
Until then I will just have to chuckle when some guy posts "My new John Smith Alpha Bravo Charlie fixed blade will be here in 2 days!!!!....I can't wait...I had to take out a second loan to pay for it...Please don't tell my wife"
I was thinking of making a few custom Trent Rock Cutlery fixed blade knives MYSELF one of these days
I got my Wayne Goddard's 40 Dolla' Knife Shop book at the ready!! ;)
My friend once said "Sheeeeeet Trent...I can't see your lazy ass pounding hot metal in front of a forge!!!"

No hard feelings bro
I went to bed fully expecting to be banned for "insulting" a moderator
But, I had to stand my ground
My point was that making fun of a guys physical appearance was sorta childlike
The main reason I made my post was the fact that his address was published and there almost seemed to be veiled threats of physical violence towards Mr. Lightning===>"Maybe we should PAY HIM A VISIT"
I'm a paranoid guy by nature
That is why I collect guns and knives===>
I probably will never use them in a defensive manner in my life
But
"Just In Case" seems to be a motto I live by ;)

Libby huh?
I think I made a post about my coordinates on the
"political compass" on this forum??
I actually align with Milton Freidman more than anyone else
I pretty much agree with most of The Libertarian Party's platform expect for the part of "closing all our foreign bases"
Which I think is ridiculous....

I do tend to get passionate about interfering with the free market
Isn't that ONE reason our fightin' men and women are over in Iraq?
To spread/preserve the concept of Capitalism/Democracy??

I always wonder how my posts are going to be received
I have gotten banned from more than one forum for stating my views
I really glad that BF respects the opinions of others and pretty much let's anything go within reason
(I get emails now and then telling me "I love your posts...Stand your ground Trent!!!...Keep em' coming!!....Those emails really make me feel good and is one of the reasons I continue to state my views in a civilized manner)
The fact that you guys allow cussing is part of the reason I love this forum

I'm most curious as to how many of you know who the guy in the picture is??
I first saw him on TV when I moved to So Cal
I didn't realize he was a legend in the creative marketing field until I saw his commercials
Campy, yet, effective

That being said===>
I do agree that making claims to be a military man to make sales is BS
Not that it really matters a whole lot, but, if the guy is modifying TOPS knives and claiming that he "made" them is also BS
He should be an honest knife peddler and say "it's a modified TOPS knife"
The first thing that came to my mind was the Hummer 3
It's really a "modified" Ford F-150 (I think the FRAME is a F-150 frame??)
Yet
Johnny "Weekend" Rambo will go to bed at night thinking the 70 grand he spent on his Hummer 3 was a bargain and he is driving to the local Mickey D's in something unique and custom.....

Trent I do agree with your points, but at the same time this was in the W&C, so every opinion matters, as it was "free game" the outrageous silly claims are just that, I mean if I was to take a crap, spray paint it gold, claim that if you rubbed it on your face a genie would appear, I'm sure I'd get made fun of, poked at and called out, and my product would be moved to a place (the good and bad) so the consumer could decide for himself, everyone has their right to kick some mud around, and your shoes are just as wet.

Trent,

No hard feelings here, either. Excellent reply.

I will never ban someone for standing their ground or disagreeing with me, even when they get harsh. If I couldn't take what I dish out, I shouldn't be posting.

You, in fact, could see that I had a bad haircut that day under the hat in my avatar pic. Good eye.

Best,

Brian

Wrong big box car company - Chevy/GMC. :p

The H2 began life as a GM 2500 heavy duty truck chassis and the H3 shares the same engine/chassis you would find under a Chevy Colorado.

Sorry, just had to throw that in. :D

P.S. I don't care if the glove didn't fit, I think he is guilty of the crime. By the way, I've got some old sports memorabilia for sale. Currently auctioning it from a hotel room in Vegas. :)

...I've had the knife in my shop. I don't care what people pay for it. I sheath all kinds of madness, from really great customs to 5.00 knives. I could care less...

Could you let us know about the quality of the knife and how useful it seemed?

Brian,

I am so glad we are on a first name basis now. This could be the beginning of a beautiful relationship. I would like to take it slow, I just met you. I hope you don’t think less of me because I’ve already been s*rewed by most of your friends here, but that’s me, I’m rather amorous.
I truly appreciate your concern for my safety. You may find this hard to believe, I sometimes have a tendency to anger people. Even my puppy sometimes.

Homicide.jpg

His name is Homicide, he’s really sweet but like me, he’s getting old and needs protection from the vicious individuals in your group.

It’s good you brought this up concerning possible hostile activities around our house. So obviously it’s not new for your people to get out of control and this situation is not a first. Because of what I do (other than knife making) I am sometimes threatened. Sometimes from a distance but most of the time it’s verbal. Most people are smart enough not to make it public.
Now, understand I’m pretty used to it but it disturbs my sweet, not-violent wife greatly. (You’d think that after all these years, she’d have adjusted, but no.)
Since I do what I do, her job is my secretary, especially communications, e-mail and the like. I personally don’t even turn a computer on, I get all e-mails through her. So when your group contacted us by sending me a “we’re having a lot of fun with you at your expense, come and see” my wife clicked in an told me about all the BS and fraud accusations about our products which she promotes, and takes great care of its customers. She insisted outright lies being pronounced publicly which she just told me the worst of.
I wrote the response to you short of enraged and told her that was it and I wasn’t going to waste my time in a pissing contest. Well, within that 24 hours my wife approached me very shook up from the hate mail and people on your mob at the forum stating “we should all go over there and kick his ass” type of comments. Needless to say she was extremely shaken. I personally could care less, but she really was scared that one or some of these lunatics would show up here, maybe when I wasn’t home. I know the rules of the road when it comes to this type of thing so I calmly told her that if she was that worried and scared the privacy act allows government law enforcement to break through internet privacy barriers if there is a possible serious threat of personal harm, she should print the entire text immediately and contact a special agent in charge at FDLE that we are familiar with from a previous event.
She had already printed everything as she read it before anything was deleted and then pulled the special agent’s number.
I then took the text and read just some of it, just enough to see some of the most unbelievable crap about me, my products and company, the word scam used constantly, and several threats against us of physical harm. I took it next door to my sister who is a very reputable attorney and showed it to her. She told me “Boy, is that slander and defamation, big time. But you can’t track these people down on the net.” Because of the threats, it’s quite likely that the privacy veil can be pulled and all your anonymity will no longer exist.
I think this pretty much sums up the situation.
I have to say this whole charade is incredibly unbelievable and you people are way out of control, and upon further reviewing the text on your forum you yourself admit and state that things are way out of control yet you as a moderator allow it to continue and even escalate. Even one guy “requesting test gear” to maybe put a stop to this harassment is bordering on extortion, and as I wrote you, I will send none of your group anything of any value.
I personally think it’s too much ego with a lot too much testosterone and possibly too much alcohol or whatever else, but it’s up to my wife now who is really upset and is the one actually posting this. I can tell you she’s shaking and has been terribly upset since reading all the threats.

Other than the guy on your site who deletes over the top stuff not working fast enough, if you really consider all this, I think you’ll agree that there’s a serious problem here. Since my wife is the one sitting at the screen here, you and the others involved (and you little scamps know who you are) may want to resolve this real fast in a big way. Maybe some serious and sincere apologies posted for scaring the crap out of her, trashing her company and its hard earned good name and convincing her she has no worries. And I don’t mean just you, Brian.
I think it would be extremely wise to get control of your people immediately and we say good-bye and you guys say good-bye and if you think this is shit or funny please state that also for the benefit of the officials reviewing it.

I think this pretty much sums up the situation.

Amazing how you can do that, sum up the situation, without even pretending to answer anyone's valid questions about you, your service, your knives and your company. Simply amazing.

Serious threats? Mentions of FDLE? Breaching the privacy barrier?? The closest thing to a threat in this thread is a (much deserved, in my opinion) laugh at your expense. Oh, and you, Johnny L, making vague threats about lawsuits.

Hmmm.... where have I heard that before recently?

You're a dork. Is THAT a threat?

Unlike you, my name is shown on every post.

I see no need to apologize for what I, personnaly, posted.

But I must say, that's a nice try at intimidation.

Not that it will work, mind.

Um. Why exactly are you squeezing that poor dog between your legs?

I took it next door to my sister who is a very reputable attorney and showed it to her. She told me “Boy, is that slander and defamation, big time.

If she's that "reputable", then how come she doesn't know the difference between libel and slander?

You are a funny little grifter, so keep this in mind...any lawsuits concerning your "knife" and I use that term loosely, would also involve you having to reveal any and all manufacturing steps (or in this case regrinding someone else's work), and you having to substantiate any and all claims and testimonials from the "operators" (again in this case more likely LARP buddies), on your website.

Now let me get my popcorn, cause this here show's fixin' to get mighty funny! :D

I see Morimotom already has the popcorn, share it around bud!
