Yes, that looks a lot better

My son bought a little kit from Bass Pro called the "Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpener." He had never sharpened anything in his life, and all of the sudden he's getting hair popping razor edges on blades, and I'm like WTH is this? It's a compact belt system, pretty slick. They also make a Ken Onion edition, which is a little bigger.

They are fast and easy - and work very well - even on thicker blades.

I love my Ken Onion Worksharp.

Tips:

-Tilt the blade to heep the edge horizontal on the belt.
-Let the tip get halfway through the belt then stop the belt and pull the knife out. Otherwise you round off the tips.
-Use a marker on your edge to make sure youre reaching all of the edge. Will let you see spots that you have given too much belt and spots that still need more.

Yes, exactly...

I have both the KME and the Worksharp. The Worksharp is my go to system as it does a superb job very quickly. The KME does a better job but takes much longer.

have you ever damaged a tip with the KME ? or with the Worksharp ?

Got to try a Wicked edge 3 pro this morning with 6 stones.

Wow, what a serious piece of equipment Re profiled the edge on a Cold Steel Code 4 folder to 19 degrees each side. It's super sharp.

Which system works better for the longer blades? The longer blades tend to have increasing edge profiles toward the tip.

I would recommend learning to sharpen by hand personally, nothing beats being able to pick up any knife wherever you may find yourself and be able to get a serviceable edge with whatever you have around you. I would start with a Norton Economy Stone, there is no need for anything more than this on Busse/kin blades… it is extremely easy and simple to do once you understand the basics…

I have used and can use a stone to get a cutting edge. It's sort of sharpish and will cut. I have used stones, diamond stones and even rocks out in the wilderness.
Nothing comes close to the edge I got today on the wicked edge pro 3 system I had the chance to use. I sharpened and re profiled a Cold Steel code 4 pocket knife at 19 degrees per side. This knife is now crazy sharp with a fine polished edge.

And yes I agree if I was in the middle of nowhere I could sharpen on a rock and get a cutting edge.

I would like to try the KME and see how it compares to the Wicked Edge Pro 3

My papaw taught me to sharpen using a stone when I was young. I can get shaving sharp using just a stone, but not laser sharp.

I can get lightsaber sharp if I finish with a strop after the stones. I love sharpening by hand, it's actually really relaxing

I bet I could get a knife just as sharp or sharper with stones freehand. It just takes lots of time and practice to reach that level. It took me about 3 years of practice to get to where i can touch a knife edge and the tip of my finger literally sweats and I have slight cuts in the first layer of skin

i just got the KME and its great, but i see now some advantages to the Edge Pro when using it. mainly the fact that you can move the blade on the edge pro vs the KME's stationary. also The Edge Pro would be easier to use the full stone vs the KME, as the KME doesnt have any stop on pull or push which is annoying.

with new stones they will scratch the blades due to the slurry they create on the blades. so start out with cheap blades first. you can always get them regrind'ed etc elsewhere for more $ if you screw up tho.

i like stones but i need a system that can reprofile and get an even edge on both sides of the blade, stones are not easy to do this. it takes lots of time and practice. if you know how to thats great.

I use an edge pro apex with extra stones and finer grit grip tapes and a few different stop attachments I made for it. It can give the blade a really nice edge and a mirror finish. Kind of addictive though because once the mirror is scratched my ocd tendency makes me want to shine them up again haha.

I also had a worksharp that I really like using. I gave my old one to my dad so I could get the ken onion edition but I haven't bought it yet. I've been debating on the ko or a harbor freight. Dunno yet.

Anyway I really like the edge pro, but they all seem to be good sharpening systems.

11" blades can be sharpened on the KME and Worksharp. It is much easier to sharpen longer blades with the WS and much quicker.

That wicked edge pro 3 was incredible . Went back to compare the edge on that cold steel code 4 with the wicked edge to other knives and wow.
The cost is the main issue. With the 6 stones you are looking at $1000, You could get a KME and an Apex Edge pro and still be at half the price of the wicked edge pro 3 but the Wicked EDge Pro 3 is a serious piece of equipment.
