Are there Knife companies that makes blades as strong as Busse knives?

Busse has dominated the mountain behind my house for years and all my other choppers with it.
Nobody does it like Busse.
Sip on that Kool-Aid.

Edit: Scottish guy with tree is drinking something else.

If people kept that in mind, I'd wager 99% of all the conflicts on the forums would vanish overnight.

And if everybody just agreed with me, 100% of all the conflicts on the forums would vanish overnight.

But...people disagree.

I agree with you except in the instances when you disagree with me.
That JK blade is cool as heck, with steel tube fasteners instead of Copper I could see the need for one burning a hole in my wish list. Generally I think a well crafted blade by a true craftsman can surpass most production techniques for this type of thing as well as in the more useful categories.

I like your logic and I concur; agreeing with you does make the most (non)sense... :p:D

This thread also need more pitchers! ;)

..they will guarantee breakage against THROWING. Find another knife maker that will deliver on that..

Not arguing, just correcting this. ESEE will. They will even replace a knife damaged by intentional destruction, such as taking a cutting torch to it. But Jeff Randall will make fun of you:D

As he should. I personally would be too embarrassed to return something I broke by being stupid. Some people don't have that problem though.

To the OP. Nothing wrong with wanting a big blade just cuz. I'd look at scrapyard for a cheaper option to a busse. Res-C is the best for large chopper knives IMO.

This is hilarious: looks like a scottish guy using a tree to baton the Legion knife

That video is wild. While over the top, it shows NR can make a tough knife. It shows Sleipner is pretty nice as well. I haven't abused my Sleipner HEST II in any way, so can't speak for the toughness, but found the steel wasn't too hard to sharpen. That can be a concern with some hard steels. Good luck in your quest.

Embarrassment, along with pride and self-respect (and for others), is a quaint notion from a bygone era now lost on many I fear……but the warranty does offer peace of mind to rest of us just in case:)

any lower rc knife made in 440a steel will be quite good when it comes to not chipping the edge or breaking.

seriously i got some 440a choppers that can take a beating, and not break. the edges roll easily due to the lower rc hardening......but they are really tough.

Yep, I agree. Quite surprising for a steel that most (including me) usually frown about. Real easy to sharpen, too. I bought a cheap knife from the Boker Magnum line some time ago and its not as bad as I thought. Of course there are better steels, like 52100 for hard use and abuse, but they are more expensive.

OP, Madam,
If you do forestry work clearing trails and cutting saplings etc.
I suggest that you take a look at a tool like this one. http://www.woodmanspal.com

I am a full time knife maker and have no vested interest etc in the company or the site selling these tools.

I just used one for a summer 20 something years ago on a ranch in Chico Ca, Clearing manzanita brush, Pine and the like on trails around the property etc.
Worked great and I sharpened it up with a hand file every two days or so.

If you're seriously considering the KR Legion, BladeHQ carries them for $290 shipped. I ordered mine on a Thursday afternoon and had it delivered Saturday. http://www.bladehq.com/cat--All-Items--1--1--search=Knife+research

I also got my Knife Research Legion from BladeHQ: Knife Research Legion. They just sold out of the Orange G10 but have the Black G10 (light shade of black) with satin blade in stock.

If you buy it direct from KR you don't get the sheath and accessories which through BladeHQ include: MOLLE compatible black nylon sheath, leg strap, sharpener, carrying pouch and polishing cloth.

Just to clarify something that was misstated earlier in this thread:

Jim Ankerson has done edge retention testing on a Busse with INFI steel. He used one of mine for the testing. IIRC, the thickness of that blade was .12. His results are in his edge retention mega thread.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Continuing the broken record: don't abuse your knives, and use the right tool. So many strong, well made knives will do the job if used right.
