If there isn't already, we'll just make something up!

I haven't priced oosic lately... or ever, actually. I imagine it's on the pricy side but I don't really know.

I have a buddy in Alabama that deals in it. Fortunately what little I have worked with he has traded me peices for reasonable deals, if you want a full uncut speciman then the price is crazy. Anywhere from $400. To $800. Bucks.

I'm not playing hard to get Thorny, just don't have any new info for you at the moment. But while I got ya here I do have another question. I suppose you want the sheaths to match as well? If I remember correctly it had a mohogany dyed basket weave?

I would love matching sheaths. Its basket weave, and a dark brown with a burgundy color too.

Sounds like a plan! I do recall my good friend Weaponeer mentioning he has a knife with petrified mastodon tusk for the scales. Can't remember which custom maker did that for him, but believe it cost him a few dollars...

I've actually gotten distracted and have been browsing your sub-forum....better post this while it's still relevant.

Won't happen... IIRC, the stadium for this year's game is open air - no roof to fall. :D

There might be lightning... :D

Yikes. Forget that noise... none of my clients want to pay for that and I sure wouldn't lay out that kinda money if it wasn't already sold. Besides, I'd be terrified of screwing it up... I'll stick with boring regular stuff like G10, micarta and wood.

Dont let me scare you away from it James. my point was if you can get it in cut pieces its much more reasonable. Its actually a very nice material to work with. It takes a beautiful polish.

So what is the best technique for polishing a walrus pecker? Is that something Murph does?

Here you go JT. Here's a pick of a custom bowie I made back in 08. The pics are crappy but the handle is oosik. Really turned out pretty. Its nice material to work with.

Yes, specifically walrus.

Hike this morning wasn't as long as I thought. Still worth the recon. Did a perimeter loop around a local state park. Trail started off with a nice ridge overlooking the lake.

A lot of the trail was lakeside. Need to take a rod and reel if I go again.

I was eyeballing these campsites for a trip with the kids. Really close kayak access. Sites look to be standard with electric, water, fire ring, and grill.

Then again... maybe not... Sign reads, "Treated Domesticated Wastewater... National Pollutant Discharge..." etc., etc. :p

Floaters? I neglected to do a sniff/taste test.

Drove around the park after my hike. I'm guessing this means Beckerhead Gatherings are out.
