ugh, that sucks, CBear. Move out of that municipality too! Your taxes aren't doing enough good.
who the hell steals a mini-fridge?

when I was a kid our house was broken into at night WHILE WE WERE HOME. freak drank all the orange juice. That may or may not have been the same guy who was caught further down the block in my dad's jogging suit.

Unfortunately as far as my experience goes you are correct. My wifes grandpa got sick years back and had to move into my mother in laws house to be taken care of. Which left his house which was full of the antiques he spent all of his life collecting, and no one there. Of coarse, it got broke into and totally ransacked. Bastards stole over 50k worth of stuff. The next day the niegbors saw the back door hanging open and called my mother in law, who in turn called me, I beat the police there and who ever broke in did so by breaking a window. when they did, not only did they evidently cut themselves. ( there was a couple of drops of blood) but there was clear finger prints all over the window and the back door that they unlocked to go out of. The police told me that there wasn't enough evidence OR clear fingerprints to pursue a case. Its Bullsh!t and I knew it. I told the cop why didn't he just be man enough to tell me my family wasn't important enough for them to give a sh!t about. He told me if I continued shooting off my mouth that I would be spending the night in jail.......I told him I would believe that because it didn't require any work............A$$HOLES!

I understand your agravation with LE. Sometimes, things just don't go the way you want them to go. I feel bad when I hear of this type of thing because, well, TM, the truth hurts and noone wants to hear what I'm about to tell you about fingerprint collection and identification. They are a pain in the arse, and rarely lead to anything significant. Now, keep in mind though, I would not have told you that at the scene. I would have told you what is below and maybe an understanding could have been reached in some way. I will say this at the start. Yes, they did you wrong and should have collected the print, I would have. Would it have done any good other than making you feel better? Probably not.

This is just the basics when dealing with prints. Fingerprints are an odd animal in the LE realm. 1) You have to know how to lift them, and although each cop may have a baseline knowledge, and its a perishable skill. 2) it takes a very long time to get the knowledge base on how to lift them properly (chemicals, surfaces, how biological fluid influence the print and the ability to retain said lifted print) And, the cop investigating might just be intimidated by having to throw powder and search for "useable" prints. Some of those powders are not enviromentally/person friendly, point blank, they are dangerous. In the past, I've had really good prints I ID'd at a scene but through some snafu the print didn't lift correctly and was ruined. I did take an outstanding close up photo before lifting it and that really saved me in that instance. 3) Each crime scene is diffrent and very rarely are there any "CSI type full distquishable prints" most are smudges (no good) and partials (sort of no good). 4) You have to obtain elimination prints from everyone you have ever known who has been in the space (practically) so that they can be compared to the lifted print. That includes palms, and thumrolls, etc etc. 5) The person who left the print, if not in the group of elimination prints has to have been fingerprinted sometime in their lives (juvenilles for one are rarely printed), and those prints have to have been uploaded into AFIS (automated fingerprint identification sysytem) at somepoint by someone for some reason. LE depends on computer added identifcation because the days of Serpico are gone. It's maddening and time consuming (not to say anyone is not worth the effort) and its rare that a fingerprint will prove anything except that at some point the person touched the surface where the print was obtained/collected. Having said all of that who hah. It's better to lift the print as best can be done, then wait for the investigation to provide information pointing to a particualr person. This usually occurrs through interviews, developing leads, eye-witness accounts (if any), pawn shop checks, yada yada yada.

You guys all know about the pup we got for our kids for Christmas. Well, its actually going well, she's growing fast and we all love her. However, she's still a pup and pup have accidents. However, today there must of been some kinda strange phenomenom that causes house pets to explode. She's been doing really well with potty training so when the wife and I decided to go out for dinner tonight we didn't think much of putting her in her pin for a hour or so. When we got back, guess what, she had a accidient and even was kind enough to stomp it and lay in it. Whadda mess! :barf: so I picked her up, my son took her outside. After about 5 minutes, he brought her in, and as soon as she stepped into the door she vomited all over the place. WTF? If THAT wasn't bad enough. My wifes cat wanted to get in on the action and celebrated all of this good news by gurgin a hairball all over our leather couch! Whatta great time that all was. So, I'm in the kids bathroom giving the dog a bath and the wife is scrubbing carpet.

That's what you get for a well timed phone call.

So, someone broke into my apartment that I'm moving out of. I didn't have a whole lot left in there, but they got my amp, speakers, a mini-fridge, a stack of movies and games (about 40-50 of them) and the worse part they stole my f(...)g kitchen knives that Ethan gave me.

Sucks man hope they catch the bastard.

trivia: "this gun" is one of Ethan's favorite.

i own one :D

M1 Carbine? HK MP5?

Yeah, me too Cbear. Pawn shop checks are going to be the way to go in your case. I hope you provided them with an inventory of the missing items. Also, distiguishing marks on something might help ID the stuff as yours if its ever found (like initials on DVDs, serial numbers, etc etc). Of course, there is the obvious....what crackhead would own a set of ESEE/Becker Kitchen knives? Answer: None...they at the pawn shop!!! Good luck, hope your insurance covers the loss.

You can bet your bippies there will be one in the pack or drybag everywhere we go. Sweet piece of kit indeed.

Heck yeah man. I may get another at a later date for a backup. Or, for my other backpack, haha. Love that photo. Shows the weight these things are capable of. I wish I could find the photo, or video, of a 200lb guy standing on one.

The LEO did take the prints he could find. Unfortunately there wasn't much to be had. They did find 3 prints, mine, my mom's and the maintenance. Whoever came in and took my stuff locked the door behind them, that tells me it was someone that has a key to the apartment. Which means it was either maintenance or the office. Monday I'm turning in my keys and I'm really tempted to play "who's the dead mother that stole my stuff" with the maintenance crew. There's only two of them and only one of them has a police record and has been fired before from here... It's all circumstantial evidence but holy hell there is a LOT of it.

I gotta figure out where I can get another set of the knives. I'll check Dale first, see if he has anymore. I'll probably give uncle weirdy-beardy a call next week to check on him too.

no no no no no no no no no no no no no

none of that is made by Ruger, eh?

Oh REALLY.
Call the outfit that employs the maintenance crew and tell them this. And call their insurer... Or threaten to.

well, that sucks.

the knives are worth $50... can be replaced. even signed.

as for the rest, i bet you could demand any final fees from the apt complex as "waived" since the staff was invovled, as they had a key or your will sue them.

The ranch rifle is practically a mini-14... What about the .44 carbine? There was also that hideous 9mm/.40 carbine, but I don't think its been around as long as the 10/22.

200 lbs? man that's something. This thing does feel really solid, but dang, that's impressive.

Man, I swear I saw that somewhere. Been looking for it. I was just laughing, at all the people here, and on other forums, that said they bought Emberlits, because of my photos. Snow Peak kettles too. :D

Cbear........Knifeworks....$45
Thanks bubba! I'll check them out. I have never ordered from them but I know they are legit.

That's the thing, it's all circumstantial. The office already knows and they say it wasn't anyone that works for them and I can't PROVE that it was. Which, they have a point, I can't PROVE it. Which I'm sure Randy was counting on.

Not worried about getting them signed. Hell I've had them for almost a year and I loved them! I've used them ALL the time and I've given out like 8 sets of them! Actually... 1 set to mom, 1 set to my aunt, 1 set to my uncle, 1 set to my cousin, 1 set to my best friend, 1 set as a wedding gift, 1 set to another friend, 1 set to me... So yeah, 8 sets. I gotta get two more now. 1 for me, 1 for Miss.

You should be making a commission % haha! I haven't been this excited about a piece of gear in a while. I'm really looking forward to firing this puppy up tomorrow.

That's how I am when I get a new piece of hiking/outdoor equipment. Love it.

You don't have to prove it, insurers work on risk. Run their rates through the roof.
