And what is the total cost of your order in general?

We are speaking about ordering a single $20 knife with free shipping. Do you think it is reasonable to request a "dealer" inspect a single $20 knife to that level of detail? I certainly don't. But if I happen to get a lemon, you bet I won't feel bad about requesting a refund or exchange.
On a knife you already admittedly got a lemon on, when buying it again, why wouldn't you just cordialy ask the dealer check it to make sure the mistake doesn't happen again?

Some guys would expect to have valet parking and custom tailoring at the W-mart !
I'm confused. If the knife you got is not worth them checking for the problem, then how is it worth the effort/expense to return/exchange it? If you are simply looking for a function check that would take all of what? a minute? The shipping was paid by someone, and I bet they sell most of those bargain bin blowouts to guys who will throw them in the tackle box, or grandmas as gifts for the grandsons who "like knives" If there is any chance that you would care about it, then A)Let them know you care, or B)eat the cost of the knife and forget about it. I feel like I'm missing something here, including how this thread got so blown out.

I would agree that asking for a them to give a sebenza level QC job to a 20$ knife is a bit over the top, but I don't see anyone suggest that. Generally the advice is to ask for them to check what's important. Part of the Forum is finding out what aspects of knives are just not worth worrying about because that "flaw" is inherent in the design, and you decide to live with it, or walk away.

People complain about QC in $300 dollar knives because at some point you expect that they have that part worked out, unless the raw weight of the materials is $290 and the maker could only invest 0.75 into actually manufacturing.

Your silver spoon is showing !

No matter the cost of an item, you should get a correctly working item. Or are you saying these knives are so cheap one should be fine with a blatant defect?

We common folk must often deal with businesses that don't really have anything akin to customer service as you enjoy . Try spending most of a day on hold listing to horrible muzak , only to be disconnected and have to start all over . This is reality for us peons .

The cost is always a lot more than $20. I don't ever get free shipping, so the shipping cost would at least double the cost of the purchase of a single cheap knife. Hence why I add cheap knives to orders where the shipping is already paid.

Perhaps I posted relevant to what I read in the last few pages which was a bit OT. If indeed that is what I have done, my bad.

Having said that, my own view is I see nothing wrong with asking the dealer to give the knife a quick once over for obvious faults, regardless of price.

Why don't we focus on knives. In this instance, if you are buying one of these blowout knives, and you want to make sure you dont get a lemon, especially after you already did, why not politely explain the situation and ask the knife be checked. Seems perfectly reasonable.

Sure . Who's your go to guy at Knife Center . Private line ? I'm game . Can I mention you as my special friend and reference ?

But most of the places I deal with you would just end up with something smelly in your Xmas stocking for presuming to annoy them .

No go to guy at all. Just email or ask politely in comments. It's not rocket science. Sounds like you need a different dealer. Maybe a supporting one here instead of amazon.

The insults and name calling are going to cease.
Next one I see using one gets a two week break to think about it.

Back on topic : the sale I intended this thread to feature refers to these BBK knives as " discontinued models " with limited time and supply . NOT regular pricing as some have insisted . So anybody interested should take note and not delay . If not interested in BBK but "only wanting to HELP" , so be it (but I hope you are all done with the" helping" now , please ) .

And so here we have a company , based in TN, USA . That pays custom knife designers to create originals and than has production models made for the value market . Pretty much the exact opposite of all that you so often rant about with copycats and clones . Ironic that you should hate BBK ,also . And , of course , no one expects you to trouble yourself to read a thread before dumping . Also you'll note that I'm referring potential buyers to BF sponsors . Is that wrong now too ?
I just don't like the designs of the knives linked in the op. I'd just never carry them. Dunno what you mean otherwise. I hate clones. I like when customs are made into more affordable midtech and high quality production. Is this just another crkt or Kershaw? The midtech they have is probably nice I'm just not into the style. I'd never use it even if it was given to me because of that.
It hurt to read past the first two pages.

Hurts me , too !

People should help themselves by putting their money towards better knives. Just my opinion, of course.
And so , what experience have you had with these knives , for either good or ill ?

Based on the poor reviews I've seen from people who's opinion I trust. also even the people who like the brand appear to receive poor quality products.

I've also been around the game long enough to be fairly good at recognizing junk when I see it. YMMV

I've been in the game for only 50 or 60 yrs , so I generally reserve final judgment until I have had hands on experience and put a knife brand to some hard use to see for myself . For me , anything less is just hearsay evidence and not admissible . YMMV

Relax, seems like you've had a rough day. Try a cold beer.

On topic, some of the BBK look alright to me. But id probably just save my money and pony up for something in the $60-80 range

Sometimes, people just want a good knife, and spending money gambling on the potential quality of a brand is not worth it when there are so many established high-quality brands for the same price and none of the worry. That is why so many folks here wouldn’t buy the knives, the unknown quality is automatically less trustworthy than the known quality.
