The fact that you two are now continuing to scoff, name call, and promote drama when given sound advice is quite petty. Asking a dealer to check a knife at any price range is very common. That is a fact.

Enjoy your $20 knives that come from the dealer not correct. Sorry for trying to help.

What dealer are you the spokesperson for? Who are you representing that will, at my request, ensure that my $20 Chinese knives will arrive to me in tip top shape with ZERO issues?

You would really be a great help by GOING AWAY !

If you act cordial, respectful, and like a decent human any dealer who is worth their salt will inspect any knife for you. I've asked mostly knife center to do this for me. Amazon will likely not do it. I have no doubt that if you are nice, any of the paying dealers here will do it. Give it a try. Can't hurt if you are respectful.

More like forceable intercourse ! PLEASE STOP DISRUPTING THIS THREAD !
Im not dirupting this thread. If anything, you and the other guy are with off topic comments and insults. If you don't like my opinion or advice on the subjects being discussed I would advise putting me on ignore. If you really think I or others are disrupting this or any thread report it rather than insulting. Let the mods do what they do. Not sure a rape comment has a place here.

Not a spokesperson for any dealer, but I have asked USAMADEBLADE, Knifeworks, Cutlery Shoppe, DLT, KSF, Blade HQ, KC and Hollow Grind to check blade centering and smooth action.
All of them had absolutely no problem with my request and a couple left a hand written note in the box. This is how I have built up relationships with dealers.
Sorry if you think we are being smart asses, but this has come up many times here and this advice is always given. We have even been thanked a few times.
I would bet the dealer would appreciate you asking in this case, return shipping might actually be the profit margin on a $20 knife.
Also, checking a knife out will not take 5 - 10 minutes, but you do you.
Joe

Especially if you have had an issue with this specific brand and model. It only makes sense to ask the knife be checked.

Exactly. I had asked to have a specific knife checked for centering and was told that every one that was in stock was uncentered. Saved both of us some aggravation and wasted shipping money.
I ask every time now.

I'm awful glad you two are speaking for dealers you have no affiliation with and making claims about their commitments. I do not require this level of inspection nor would I expect anyone selling $20 Chinese knives to inspect them for blade centering, blade play, adjust pivots so the action is just right, perfect grinds, no cosmetic issues, lock stick, no gaps in scales or liners etc. These are things that people here typically bitch about on MUCH more expensive knives, which is understandable. But this level of effort for a $20 knife is laughable to expect or request.

It was advice I got on BF that assured me it was acceptable and common to request the dealer to inspect the knife I'm buying. This was important to me as I live on the other side of the globe. And it works. Of course, I have only applied it to BF supporting dealers and a few other reputable ones like CS.

As I order from overseas I often add a cheap knife or two to the order. If I'm paying for the shipping, I might as well make the most of it. I will then look to on-sell the cheap knife/s, for a small profit, so I do ask the dealer to please check there are no obvious faults with it. They seem to gladly oblige.

Just offering my 2 pfennigs worth.

Seasons greetings and good cheer to all.

And what is the total cost of your order in general?

We are speaking about ordering a single $20 knife with free shipping. Do you think it is reasonable to request a "dealer" inspect a single $20 knife to that level of detail? I certainly don't. But if I happen to get a lemon, you bet I won't feel bad about requesting a refund or exchange.

A good dealer will check these things for you. Sorry to hear you dont expect to get what you pay for and would rather get a defective item instead of asking a dealer to simply open the box and check. I don't advise others to do the same. We have great supporting dealers here, why not give them the opportunity to be great?

None the less, the advice of an inspection request is often given/received/heeded here.

Ive not requested an inspection of a knife myself but certainly consider it sound advice no matter the value of the knife.

In any event, I hope you are all happy with your knives of this brand.

I didn't read all 9 pages but I wouldn't use this brand if it was given to me for free.

Yeah , the clowns are finally all arrived .Let the party begin ! Happy Holidays Y'all .

I'm confused. If the knife you got is not worth them checking for the problem, then how is it worth the effort/expense to return/exchange it? If you are simply looking for a function check that would take all of what? a minute? The shipping was paid by someone, and I bet they sell most of those bargain bin blowouts to guys who will throw them in the tackle box, or grandmas as gifts for the grandsons who "like knives" If there is any chance that you would care about it, then A)Let them know you care, or B)eat the cost of the knife and forget about it. I feel like I'm missing something here, including how this thread got so blown out.

I would agree that asking for a them to give a sebenza level QC job to a 20$ knife is a bit over the top, but I don't see anyone suggest that. Generally the advice is to ask for them to check what's important. Part of the Forum is finding out what aspects of knives are just not worth worrying about because that "flaw" is inherent in the design, and you decide to live with it, or walk away.

People complain about QC in $300 dollar knives because at some point you expect that they have that part worked out, unless the raw weight of the materials is $290 and the maker could only invest 0.75 into actually manufacturing.

And so here we have a company , based in TN, USA . That pays custom knife designers to create originals and than has production models made for the value market . Pretty much the exact opposite of all that you so often rant about with copycats and clones . Ironic that you should hate BBK ,also . And , of course , no one expects you to trouble yourself to read a thread before dumping . Also you'll note that I'm referring potential buyers to BF sponsors . Is that wrong now too ?
