Bad Experience with wolf-man-12

I've been reading these posts and a question about paypal came to mind as it relates to this thread. Does paypal automatically make a payment to an individual = fee to the seller or do you have to specifically choose?

The reason I ask is because when I recently paid for an item from a member here, paypal chose a debit from my bank account. They never asked if I wanted to pay any differently. Does that make it a gift transaction?

Debiting your bank account or obtaining payment via a credit card is an issue of method of payment, not whether the transaction was a sale or gift. Paypal prefers debiting your bank account. You have to "change" method payment to avoid that.

I will not characterize a transaction as a gift when it is not. That would be dishonest.

I generally pay with PP gift as that's what most people ask for. I asked for pics of the Vesuvius. He claimed he had none. Did he address why he flaunted the knife to people at the post office? Did he address why he's stopped responding to my emails? Why he's not responding in this thread? Why he's not honoring the forum rules regarding sales?

The seller is claiming to have sent the correct knife.

So basically, I'm screwed out of $158.

Here's what my gut tells me. Jack saw that I was new on the boards. He saw that I put up a post looking for a specific knife. He didn't have the knife. (He's never produced any pictures of it) He concocted a story about him "showing" people at the post office the knife as to setup his scam. He counted on the fact that in a he said/he said people would believe him because of his longevity on the board. I can swear on the lives of my children, who were with me when I opened the package, that the box contained a cheap $10 chinese knife and not the Vesuvius Jack claims he shipped. I can only assume he's responding privately and not on this thread because he doesn't want to have to answer some of the tough questions posed by other members. I guess if I pulled a scam like this and I had no answers for my actions, I would dodge the forum members also.

Another odd detail. I asked Jack if we could speak over the phone. He never gave me his number but asked for mine. When i gave it to him, he called me from a 1-800 phone number. How could I be so stupid. This had scam written all over it from the beginning.

not that it answers any questions, or fixes this dispute at all....... but out of only sheer curiosity can you post a pic of the chinese $10 blade you say you received?

if you'd rather not....no big deal.....not important, at all, just sheer curiosity.

I will tonight when I'm back home.

Having suffered a similar fate to yours in a bad trade recently, I sympathize with you.
I wonder if this guy can produce any evidence at all that he ever even owned a Spyderco Vesuvius? A sales receipt or record of a trade (even on another forum) should be easy enough to produce. I have owned knives that I never photographed, but I can't think of any knife worth +/- $150 that I would have zero record of ever owning.

That would definitely be a start. I'd love to see any evidence that he actually owned it at any point. Part of the problem is that he's not responding to my emails, nor posts from anyone in this thread. His only response has been to specific people in this thread and only to specific questions.

I have my doubts he was showing it off at the Post Office!

First thing they ask is: Anything fragile, liquid, or potentially hazardous?

Now a days you would be lucky to take a knife in the post office (in your pocket) let alone show it off to the staff.

I call BS on that!

Good luck dealing with this guy, hope it works out.

Any update on this? I hardly think his email and explanation to karda absolves him from anything. The guy is obviously a thief and should be banned. Funny how he hasn't stepped in here to post. What a p*ssy.

1. Watch your language.
2. We don't know what happened yet, we only think we do.
3. Don't be so quick to call for a ban. FEEDBACK works for a solution. Witch hunts put an end to that possibility.

Esav,

I am not posting his full name or address as others have requested until we get a clear answer or response from him as per your instructions. That being said, he HAS responded privately to others and has been active in other threads. Is this not enough to assume that he is either dodging the issue or he has no believable answer?

According to tony, wolf-man-12 is a thief and liar whom sent a $10 chinese knife in place of a spyderco vesuvius.
According to wolf-man-12, tony is liar trying to scam him out of a knife and money. Says he sent spyderco.

Neither party is providing any proof, other than their heresay.

Part of me wants to wash my hands altogether of this, the other part wants to ban the both of you to insure that noone will be scammed by either of you again.

Karda,

If you sent $158 to someone for a knife and got garbage back instead of what you expected, and then he stopped responding to your emails, how would you handle it? I only went to the boards after he stopped responding to my emails. Put yourself in my shoes. If I were the one scamming him, do you really think I would make it public on the boards and keep the conversation going? If anything, the fact that he hasn't responded on this board I think speaks volumes about his intentions. Blaming the messenger is irresponsible on your part. I'm simply stating my case and trying to ensure that it doesn't happen to anyone else. I don't know how you're coming to the conclusion that banning both of us is a proper thing to do. Is there no such thing as justice?

How would i handle it?
Well first.... i wouldnt have used the "Gift" option in the first place. Leaving myself some recourse. Not only is it wrong (and possibly criminal) it is against the TOS you agreed to when using that service......Hows that for irresponsible?
Second, i would be looking into any recourse i did have, off the forum. What is it you expect to receive here? None of us can magically get you the money you carelessly "Gave" away. You have to investigate and pursue that on your own. There are quite a few threads here involving bad deals and what you can do or whom to contact. I'd suggest you start reading.

Not opposing "hearsay."

Direct evidence from the OP. He came into the forum and told his version of the facts. He can be cross-examined.

Hearsay from Wolf. Sending someone else to carry your water is less impressive by its nature. And it has an implication, accurate or not.

Tony,
I think sympathy is still with you for this situation. What Karda is saying is that neither of you have provided anything substantiating your claims other than words. It is a "he said/she said" problem, which is difficult to determine facts. On several occasions in the past, we have discovered that the OP was the one at fault and trying to set-up the other party. With just words, there's no real way to prove anything.

Why don't you post a picture of the $10 knife and the shipment packaging you received from the trade? You already said that you would.

Grasping at straws- What did the packaging look like?

Was there any sign of Tampering?

I actually keep the packaging while verifying the knife is what I want.

Personally I wouldn't be flashing an 8-inch knife around in the Post Office because it could be considered a weapon and I believe the Post Office frowns on weapons.
