Bad Experience with wolf-man-12

Tony,
I think sympathy is still with you for this situation. What Karda is saying is that neither of you have provided anything substantiating your claims other than words. It is a "he said/she said" problem, which is difficult to determine facts. On several occasions in the past, we have discovered that the OP was the one at fault and trying to set-up the other party. With just words, there's no real way to prove anything.

Why don't you post a picture of the $10 knife and the shipment packaging you received from the trade? You already said that you would.

I agree completely. Picture of the knife and packaging will be posted tonight when I get home.

Karda, at no point have I asked for anything from the forums members. Perhaps you have not read, or are misunderstanding my posts. I have been saying from the first post that my goal here was to hopefully get an explanation from Jack on several questions (which we still have not) and to warn others on the board about this unfortunate incident so nobody else gets scammed. Isn't that the purpose of this thread? When did I ask for anything other than that? And to answer your questions, I have pursued all other options including postal investigation and paypal dispute. I use the gift option at times to avoid fees. You and I both know that many people do that. Again, and for clarity, my posting of this thread only came after Jack stopped responding to my emails. Our "deal" was over a month ago. I did not mention anything about it on this board until he cut off communication a few days ago and I felt that I had indeed been scammed. I came to this board with the intention of outlining what happened to me and to prevent him from doing it to others. Your tone is insulting and uncalled for. I've been scammed and I'm trying to prevent him from doing it to others. If he is truly the victim here, why has he not responded? Why not answer any of these questions? Why not tell his side of this story? I think other board members who would consider trades or sales with him would want to know. That is the purpose of this thread.

Grasping at straws- What did the packaging look like?

Was there any sign of Tampering?

I actually keep the packaging while verifying the knife is what I want.

Personally I wouldn't be flashing an 8-inch knife around in the Post Office because it could be considered a weapon and I believe the Post Office frowns on weapons.

The packaging did not look like it had been tampered with at all. I saved all the packaging including the paper the knife was wrapped in.

Your tone is insulting and uncalled for.

Indeed. You might want to adjust your own tone control.
Good luck with your quest. This is the last time i'll try to help in one of these threads.

Just because everyone scams paypal out of fees, it makes it alright to do so?
Many here won't deal with individuals that use that option.

If it happened over a month ago why wait until now to bring it up? If i got the wrong knife in the mail i would let the seller know immediately, and give the post office time for the right knife to be shipped to me, when that time passed and you hadn't got your knife, then you should of started this thread, not a month later, Could be he was dragging it out as paypal and CC companies have a 45 day grace period to file a claim looks like he may of been trying to keep you going till that 45 days was up , then you would have no option you could do. I don't have a dog in this fight , I'm just stating my opinion , but to the OP pics of the knife and packaging will help your case a lot.

Allen,

I notified Jack 30 seconds after opening the package. Over the last 3 weeks he claims he's been trying to talk to people at his post office and I've been doing the same. He's only discussed it with me when I sent emails asking for updates. I tried to resolve it amicably and didn't accuse him of anything. Things got ugly when he stopped responding to my emails, claiming that I was trying to scam him. That's when I became certain of his intentions. I now believe that he may have been stalling to allow claim periods to pass as you said. That is certainly possible.

My tone only changed when you suggested banning me for posting a thread and trying to tell my side of an unfortunate story. How is that fair? Isn't that the purpose of this section? If telling your side of a story is grounds for being banned then I would have not posted anything and just hoped that this guy didn't scam anyone else in this forum.

I never said EVERYONE scams paypal. I will obviously never use that option again. I've used it in the past as other have suggested it to avoid fees.

I will use the gift option only if I know the person and we have done several transactions before, other than that it's fees or nothing. Also when I am a seller I even give the buyer my phone number because i work nights, and say If you are not satisfied or have any problems call me, But beware just because someone has excellent feedback, and been a member for years, they still may scam people, I've seen it before, And the lack of the sellers presence in this thread is not looking good on his behalf, Also to the buyer never ever ever ever buy a knife without pics first! The seller may of shown the knife off, I live in a small town and my local postman is a knife fanatic, everytime I ship one out he's like what do we have now and I have shown him knives, but he's been a life long friend of the family, so He MIGHT of done what he said, if he has a situation like mine with the postman.

I will not use the gift option again, unless its truly a gift or im dealing with family. I gave him my phone number. He called me from a 1-800 number. The suspicion just kept growing and growing a that point. In retrospect, I can't believe how stupid I was.

This is a bad situation...

Short of coming clean, and admitting he didn't send the correct knife, it is difficult/imposible to ever get any positive resolution in a situation like this.

-The seller should have taken, and offered pictures of the knife...
-The seller should have responded in this thread, but it seems he chose to communicate with the Mods, off screen...
-The story of him showing the P.O workers the knife, sends up all kinds of red flags IMO...

-The OP, should have never agreed to buy the knife, without pictures. I don't care how long someone has been a member, unless I know them personally...

-The "GIFT" option should NEVER be used. You lose all recourse by doing that... Personally, I don't think there should be any listing of " PAYPAL GIFT, OR add 2-5% to cover Paypal fees, allowed in the Exchange. It is irritating, and as far as I know, against PayPal rules...
But that is a topic for another thread.

-You should have never bought a knife that you didn't even see pictures of...
While I don't buy the statement that the seller showed the knife to the workers at the P.O, I find it odd too, that you have stated numerous times, that the seller was going to take advantage of you, because you are a newer member. Why would you assume that ?
There are countless deals done here, with new members. We all have to start at the bottom, and gain trust of the community.

While I'm not saying we don't believe your side of the story, but we can't come to any conclusions without concrete proof.
You can swear all you want that what you are saying is true, but usually both parties do that in a situation like this, so there is no way to know what is actually true.

Mike,

I'm working under the assumption that I was scammed. Not that this was an innocent mistake on his part. Under that assumption, He must have figured that in a he said/he said situation, he would get the benefit of the doubt because of his long history here and good feedback in prior sales. He mentioned that several times in his emails. He stated that he has a good standing in the forum and that as a "newbie" I was probably trying to rip him off.

I agree about the Gift option. I will never use it again. I've learned my lesson. I don't know what proof I can provide other than the truth and what was was said to me during my emails with him. The only other thing I can offer is his lack of response to this thread. We know for a fact he has read it and he has responded to others privately. I know if I was being accused of something like this, I would be out in front of it defending myself and stating my position. He has not done anything of the sort. I have posed some fair and tough questions for him to respond to. He has chosen not to. That is all the proof I can offer at this point.

Tony,

Definitely sounds like you got hosed in this deal. Wolf-man would be in here raising all kinds of hell if he were the clean one. There would at least be SOME response from him denying what you've been saying in here. You've told a consistent depiction of events with goofy details that ring true. Wolf-man is not responding because he probably assumes you've got copies of previous e-mails between the two of you wherein he describes his showing off the knife at the post office or some other detail that he's going to deny and get caught in a lie. It sounds to me like he needed Xmas money and was desperate enough to scam the new guy.

These situations are super distressing to me. I've probably conducted a couple hundred deals on this site. I've only had one bad situation that this community helped resolve favorably. It's a shame that stuff like this happens. All you can do is learn a lesson and move on.

FYI, I'm a lawyer in Texas that would handle something like that and it's just flat not reasonable to go after in civil court. You're better off just losing $158 and moving on than pouring money into an attorney. If the guy is desperate enough to go after $158, he's not going to have any assets you could get in civil court.

Good luck and hang tight.

Thanks Kru,

Again, I'm not really looking to recoup anything. I know that's a longshot. My goal here was to warn others about him. Hopefully I've accomplished that.

Hey man, I really feel sorry for you- but you can't prove anything without pics. As the saying goes here- "pics or it didn't happen". All I can think of is to contact the post office he shipped from. Have you done this yet?

Hrm, No pics, no attempt to contact USPS, the tide seems to be turning..

I agree he promised pics when he got home, I was in this thread when i went to work and came right back to it, like someone else said pics or it didn't happen We can't prove something else either but I'm not gonna state what it as I don't wanna give anyone any ideas of something to do. All I can say is when i got scammed I was in the thread raising hell and telling people who the guy was, If I was being accused I wouldn't leave this thread until my name was cleared. Smells fishy

he hasn't gone down to the flea market yet to grab a $10 knife for the picture :)

this whole situation is suspicious.

makes me think twice about using the gift option in future transactions though.

anything can happen.

This is my thought. If I were the accused, and innocent, I'd be in here raising holy hell.

Pictures before payment.

Never use the gift option.

Insurance on every package every time.

If wolf didn't want to accept the gift option why not send the money back and make tony use the goods option?

Think twice about using the Gift payment ? I would think situations like this, would be enough to convince everyone NOT to use the Gift payment.

Him posting a picture of a cheap knife, whether it was one that was shipped to him or not, isn't going to prove anything.
However, because he said he would post pictures when he got home from work, he should follow through with it.
