Becker "Move Your Butt" Challenge - July 2014

Went on vacation to the beach for the last 6 days. I logged some walks on my pedometer while I was down there.

Friday 11th - 2.1 mile walking
Saturday 12th - 3.1 mile walking
Sunday 13th - 2.7 mile walking
Monday 14th - 1.5 mile walking before i took off the pedometer, then I lost it until last night...

9.4 + 19.2 = 28.6 ttd

1.4 miles on treadmill and 5.3 miles on bike 2.7 + 16.5 = 19.2 ttd

Relatively easy "homemade" 5K. 3.1 miles.
Muscles are getting better, but left knee is still tender from the cold-boot pounding I gave it during the 10K.
Wore a brace this evening that helped a lot.

14.3 BP.

Been kind of slow.

Let's see though. I know for a fact that I hiked at least 1900m on the ESEE land nav course last Saturday.
That's just the point-to-point map distance moving to each UTM grid location.
So 1.1 miles there. In the 95 degree heat. With pack.

Ran a quick two miles tonight.
Knee is still sore, but I noticed that when I stopped over-striding and ran with my stride behind me, pain subsided and speed increased.
I've had PT on my knees before because of tendonitis. I'm going to start those exercises again and work harder on good running form.

14.3 + 3.1 = 15.3 BP so far.

Another 30 mler today. Weather was gorgeous, if a bit breezy. Managed almost 30 mph with a tailwind....for a few seconds. My overall pace was still pedestrian, but it's nice to be able to ride again.
7.5 + 13.5 = 21 BP TTD.
1.5 + 21 = 22.5
.75mi to the fishing spot, .75 home after a nice, fishless (I have no desire to carry a legal size striper home) evening on the pond. Prolly doesn't even count since I had a beer in between. Pack's pretty heavy, tho....like walking with a weight vest. So also a (very) little "weight training" ;). Becker content:

2.9 mile hike with pack.

18.2 BP for July.

10 mile run this morning.

10+13=23 BP for July

I HATE running in Florida in the summer. I've been very lazy (wimpy) because of the heat. Last night I ran 7 miles. It was the first time I'd run in about 12 days. Luckily I'll be heading north for a few weeks then back to Japan. Hopefully the temperatures will be more in my favor.

7+23=30 BP for July

2 mile run. Relatively brisk. 20.2 BP.
Splits were pretty strong at 8:15 and 7:39.
I still have no wind.

I also broke in my new scoots.
I'm very much a last year's model kind of guy when it comes to running shoes, so these are Brooks Ravenna 4's and not 5's.
They cost me $60 as opposed to $130.

They're a Neutral/Stability shoes in contrast to my trusty Adrenaline GTS's, which are a straight-up Stability shoe.
My initial impression is that I like the Ravennas better, but it could be just because they're new.

Took it easy last week nursing a sunburn.. finally got back in the gym this morning.

1.6 mile on treadmill - 1.6
4.8 mile on bike - 1.2

2.8 + 28.6 = 31.4 ttd

I was lucky to pick up a pair of Ravenna 5's on sale. I paid $72. I really like these shoes. It was my first pair of Brooks. I don't know if it was that my previous shoes, Adidas Boost Energy and Asics Kayano 19, each had over 500 miles on them, or they are just more comfortable, but I really like the Ravenna 5's. I'll probably be looking for another pair when these start getting up there in mileage.

I got a new bike in July and me and my lady have been hitting the road for fitness and fun. I have road a total of 28 miles so far. Last ride was yesterday at 5:30 am for 8 miles. Yeah me!!!

5's will be on sale here in the fall. Got my eye on a red pair.
