Beckerhead Jobs

I worked in restaurants for 7 years while in high school and college. Changed gears and worked on motorcycles for 11 years, all brands and types. Loved working on bikes, but got tired of working in the filthy shop day in and day out. Went to electronics school and I have worked on survey grade GPS, mapping and GIS GPS, optical robotics and total stations, and construction lasers for about 10 years now. I am surprised there are no surveyors on here, they are mostly knife toting boy scouts, lol.

I'm not a land surveyor in the traditional sense (more like a high-tech prospector), but use this gear all the time. Trimble GPS R7/R8/5700 mainly, but still break out the Nikon auto-level now and again...!

And I am a knife toting boyscout...

I work on a boo boo bus and sling band aids for a living. 17 years in EMS and I'm still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up.

Full time exterminator again, had to quit university 3 months ago with my wife being laid off and the primary bread winner. (why I was not around for a while.....could not afford internet!!)

Sure sucked to wash out on 7000$ worth of tuition but at least we can make the mortgage payments again and keep the bank off our a@@.

Making 40 to 50% more than when I was a meatcutter, helps a lot right now.

Not a beckerhead yet, but I'm a Professional Geophysicist (P.Geo.) working in mineral exploration and I have a small consulting company. I've been at it for almost 20 years now and still love my job, it's taken me to some of the remotest places on the planet. I mainly do gravity and magnetic surveys.

Nothing like getting paid to walk in the woods!

Cool, I love seeing pics of gear in the wild so to speak. We send gear out to some exotic locations sometimes, I always scan the pics in the data collectors to see where it has been.

I knew there had to be some surveyor types on here, for the record I was a scout and I tote a knife too ;)

Well..I used to do corrections at Rikers Island Prison for about 7 years (long ago)..my last 3 in the juvenile building . I would rather have stayed with the adults lol. So I do sympathize with the other CO's here. A note.."please don't take it home with you"..I did and I started to separate myself from my wife and kids..so I quit. Just like that I walked away..family is way more important in the long run.

Then I bounced around (welder, tow truck driver etc) and ended up at a secure personnel transport service my friend started. In other words now I drive people around who have armed guards, diamonds, suitcases with handcuffs and porn stars..etc who wish to remain inconspicuous. Needless to say its an interesting job but every Fridays I have the best client in the world. A semi sane man of 80 who comes to the city to sign papers, say NO, and to fire people at his & sons FIRM. We then go to the strip club..he gets 1 lap dance, 1 Bud Select or Corona, and he smokes 1 cigar..then I drive him back to the office to pick up his son and take them back to White Plains train station where he usually gets mad and throws his teeth at his son (seriously). I actually like my job...on Fridays :D

Rear windows plated and don't roll down of course..

Way to capture a pick of the teeth lol. I was a truck driver until I got laid off. The community college here has a 2 year nuclear program for the local power plant. Now I'm a student and work part time as a mechanic.

That's cool right there !

Well, since this thread started, I haven't had anything to contribute.

Now I do.

As of today, I am an industrial electrician performing facility and mechanical maintenance at a powdered metal facility.

Yay me!

Congrats, Moose!

The only thing worse than having a job is looking for one... ;)

I am actually kind of jealous of emperorvince lol

Lmao..please don't be. All I can say..is its better than most jobs I have had. Half the time I drive, I'm scared (very aware) due to the fact that whoever I am driving that day (ie: 47st jewelers..especially when they have a real bodyguard or two), may have enemies or be plotted on at my expense..something my edc bk11 may not be able to help me with. But it pays the bills for the time. Like I said tho..I always look forward to my Friday client :)
