Beckerhead Knife Making and Modification Thread

A few years ago, I bought this Spyderco and carried it for a couple years. After much sharpening and resharpening, I eventually sharpened it enough that the tip stuck out of the handle when the knife was closed. I got tired of poking myself in the finger when I reached into my pocket, so I put it in the knife drawer and somewhat forgot about it.

Earlier conversation about Spyderco knives ( and a kind offer from a friend) persuaded me to fire up the grinder and make it a user once again.

Here it is before a makeover.

Overall profile. It is kind of hard to tell that I did anything. Just as intended.

Nice work!
Now just grind 1/4" off the handle to match. :D

Thanks.

I like to have a handle longer than the blade on my folders. Helps with leverage in knife related tasks like prying and opening cans.

Nice KMG.

Nice job on that Spydie, Cooper.

Daizee: that KMG looks like fun. Pure, unadulterated, steel grinding fun. Color me green, a little.

Thanks for finding the tail end of this thread, Cooper - I had some pics I was gonna post but was too lazy to go and look for the thread.....

MIL's belated secret Santa gift + early birthday gift. The cutting board was custom made to fit into a small USPS Priority Mail box. Made it out of a stair tread cutoff from a job I was on. The guy who made the stairs said they were made out of hickory....he did a fantastic job with the stairs, but I'll eat a BK11 if that's hickory. Birdseye maple is what it is, I'm 99% sure of. The knife is a 5" santoku kit from Woodcraft. Three layer AUS10 and I added Mayan (or Caribbean) rosewood scales and brass pins. Finished with a dozen coats of wipe on poly and buffed with carnauba wax. The board is just a mineral oil finish.

Lucky MIL!

(do you call her Milly?)

No. I actually call her "Sharon". She prefers that as it is her real name ;).
I hope she thinks she's lucky. She is a great cook but always seems to reach for the smaller knives (think paring knife for everything) so I decided the 5" size would still give her the small knife vibe while providing a lot more utility & capability than a paring knife. Which says "paring" right in it's name, so I've never understood cutting, say, an avocado with one. I'll find out what she thinks in a few days. I put it in the mail yesterday, so she should get it by Tuesday.

No he didn't. The choil is different, this one still has the thumb ramp and the hook is subtly different, but it looks like the maker was heavily influence by Greg's work.

So I just saw this on ebay...

Did you make this?!?
I did not make it. However, the drawing is mine - but it has been doctored. Dubz brought this to my attention yesterday, and I thought it was just coinkydink - but I hadn't seen the drawing. Now I know it is NOT coincidence. I had a request to make another "tactical" 7 from another BF member a couple weeks ago. I was flattered, but declined...and sent him a few pics and a photo of my original drawing (which included modification to the blade as well) and told him to have at it if he could find someone to make it for him. For most of it, I guess I could really give two shits, but checking out the listing again and looking at ALL the photos this time, I'm a little incensed that he used MY drawing. I'll be emailing him shortly. Good eye, though.

that looks exactly like GSOM's 7 with the blade section left mostly alone. Indeed, it looks like the drawing was 'shopped to undo the blade mod.

Like gsom said, I spotted that yesterday and PM'd him. Easily recognizable.

WOW What a douche!! If you look in one picture you can see half of a printed off picture. I wonder if that is a picture of your finished knife.

Dubz, you were right. I didn't look at all the pics in the listing - but that drawing is definitely mine. I think the Beckerhead community has spoiled me for the larger BF group. I was flattered when the guy emailed me asking if I would make one for him - but I guess not everyone is as standup as you 'Heads.

I just looked at the listing, if you look closely at the pic of the drawing you can tell he took you're picture then photoshopped it
