Beckerhead Knife Making and Modification Thread

Forgive me please if this has already been covered, but I am just wondering...Since knife making and knife modification are very different subjects, would it be appropriate to have a "Beckerhead Knife Making" thread and also a "Beckerhead Knife Modification" thread as separate entities. Please - no offense intended to the original poster, granitestateofmind, because this obviously has been a popular thread as is.. If you guys think this idea has merit, I would be glad to start a knife making thread but first wanted to make sure I would not be stepping on anyone's toes.

Have a great day everyone!

Certainly no offense taken. I set this up after taking some (good natured) heat regarding too much knife making talk in the snark thread. I just figured it'd be easier for our more knowledgeable Beckerhead colleagues to respond if it was all consolidated. Feel free to set up a separate thread if you wish....though I think this one can accommodate both subjects.

I vote for keeping them together. There's a lot of overlap in the two topics, and keeping it all in one thread makes it easier to find stuff, and not answer the same questions over and over.

Here's my latest project - won't really get started until at least next week but I certainly am looking forward to this:

Thanks Granite - that was nice of you to say. I just look at the mistakes on each knife and try to avoid them on the next one.

Here are some better pictures(I hope). I will hopefully be doing the twine epoxy wrap tonight on the stepped down portion.

Hunter/skinner with 3 1/2" blade and a handle from Texas Mesquite. Convex groundd 1084.

Very nice work! I really like the nice curve from the tip to the butt.

Got any advice? You seem to be progressing very well. Any tips or tricks you have picked up?

I gotta get my arse in gear and make some more knives.

I don't think any of us needs criticism; I see all sorts of flaws in my work and that's criticism enough. Plus, it really does seem like your skills are progressing well. Sit back, open a beer, and give yourself a little mental pat on the back and enjoy what you have accomplished.....then think about what you're gonna do differently next time.

I'll try to do the same.....

Thanks Dresnor - TODAY!!! I learned that when drilling holes in the wooden handles the underside of the handle must be totally flat against the blade so it is precisely at a right angle to the bit in the drill press or it is really easy to drill it on a slant and then the pin or tubing goes through at an angle and the whole thing ends up cattywampus. It seems obvious now of course. I threw away two walnut scales today because I was drilling when I should have been thinking. More likely to be an issue with homemade blanks than the ones you buy which are usually flat to start with.

So that's what I learned today - thanks for your kind comments.
