Beckerhead Knife Making and Modification Thread

Also made this the other day out of an aranyik enep. Ive always liked the Habilis Bushtool and wanted to make a 3 inch larger convex model, with Becker handles. Here is the result. The Becker scales are old ones that I ground on to make fit the shape of the handle I carved out. I will make new ones out of G10 that look MUCH NICER. So far I am LOVING this knife. It chops like an animal and feather sticks like a dream!

That is so awesome! Great job!

Those scales made a big difference compared to the beat up Becker ones.

I like your Machete as well.

Jeremy

Oh yeah, I love that. I'll bet that thing is a chainsaw. Fantastic job.

Thanks guys!!! Ive been having a lot of fun building these. I cant believe Im actually getting paid to build that machete!

I Like the Bushtool alot, and the machete looks great too. Personally I prefer the simpler axe handle mod, especially with the corded section add.

Well this knife is officially a winner in my book. It weighs in at 14.5oz, chops better than my 9(gasp! at least in my inexperienced hands LOL) and is so good at everything I use it for. Plus its really comfy to use. Here it is today taking care of some forearm size yucca.

1st hit

2nd hit

3rd hit

The thumb ramp is like an iceskate it makes really good shavings

This will definitely take the place of my 9 as camp knife. Nothing against the 9, I still love the 9. But this one is all me so its even more awesome!
LOL

I'm missing this one at the moment.
Got a bunch more of 710 mycarta to use up too.

Got started on the sheath today.

that's some SERIOUS cowhide!

So ACTUAL work has begun in the shop as of today. I was there TWICE and did TWO different things!
OMG, you have no idea how thrilling this is after two months of total stoppage.

So far I've recovered all of my previous 'shop's capabilities, but better organized and with less extraneous crap, though there still is some. Most of the storage is contained, and there are a few large in-the-way items that will be moved out shortly.

I've added a jewelry furnace to the heat-treat rack (ideas percolating), and all the KMG needs is a dedicated circuit to be fully commissioned.

amazing heat treat?

This.

154CM kiln treated in foil wrap, plate-quenched. Came out gorgeous. Of course it's all polished off now. There's a very fine decarb layer, and shaping the handles polishes the perimeter, and it's not always so gorgeous on both sides, etc.

Makes for nice pix, tho! I like to leave that pattern on 'dashi and hidden tang knives if it comes out decent.
