Beckerhead Knife Making and Modification Thread

daizee: Absolutely beautiful work! Viewing exceptional and flawless knife making, makes my day.

I am cornering the market in fancy white oak.
These new additions are about 20% of my collection.

This.

154CM kiln treated in foil wrap, plate-quenched. Came out gorgeous. Of course it's all polished off now. There's a very fine decarb layer, and shaping the handles polishes the perimeter, and it's not always so gorgeous on both sides, etc.

Makes for nice pix, tho! I like to leave that pattern on 'dashi and hidden tang knives if it comes out decent.
Thanks for the info. Shame it gets polished off. I look forward to seeing the finished product.

Yeah, I like it. Over in shop talk I almost got my eyes scratch out for suggesting it looked cool and asking about durability. It's 'unfinished', but... given the forge marks and rough finishes often left on blades, I can't see that it's always the wrong choice.
It's held up pretty well on my original birudashi.

Had some fun today harvesting some downed acacia and mesquite.

that fawns foot makes chopping so easy. I can use such a relaxed grip and just let the weight do the work. This is definitely the least amount of energy I've expended using a big knife to chop.

Beautiful clean lines Daizee. Me likey very much. I got into my shop for the first time in a while and got started finishing up a hatchet design. Got a ton of blades to finish up, really.

The new grinder.
It works.

Profiling some ideas...

I like the Santoku flavored one. I have a Wusthof 8" granton edge santoku. My favorite in the block. In knife making news, I have a 5" 67 layer (I think) damascus santoku that is taped up and ready for some wood. Birthday gift for my sister, a little belatedly. I'll get some photos up when I'm done (by the end of the month,).

I like that one too - both, actually. I couldn't get a proper santoku drawing to look any good, so pffft. My go-to chef's knife is a Henckels's 4-star 7" santoku. It's a fabulous design. These are more in the petty range. Or, as Mr. Musselman said: "Petty and Crass". They may be a matched pair now.

DIBS.

This one mine Daizee ??

If so id like green micarta or wood handles.. either way with black liners.

Thanks

:D

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha.

No. That, dear fellow, is mine. With nice bright orange G10 handle scales. Me and Daizee bounced ideas for a riggers knife off eachother until that coalesced.

A little off-topic, sorry...but, wow, that "r" and "i" in "riggers knife" made me do a double-take, lol. :p
