Beckerhead Knife Making and Modification Thread

So, it's actually turning out OK. Shaped and did most of the sanding tonight; I'll be leaving the finishing until after the long weekend.

Preliminary shaping:

The epoxy didn't come out as dark as I'd hoped it would, but will prolly darken a bit when I start applying the finish.

Final shaping and contouring at 150 grit:

Didn't get the thumb/forefinger cutouts very even; took off a little more than I was planning whilst trying to correct that...still, feels pretty good in hand. It'll be a user for sure, tho. Pretty tall convex edge under the tape ;).

Walked into my shop today for the first time in a month. Tightened the pivot on my mini-grip and swapped back to the original pocket clip. Big start!

Very Nice Granite! I really like the way that one is turning out. Once you put the finish, I think every thing will really pop and the blacks will be perfect.

Um....yeah - you did. Rattle can color? I like it.

Yep, just rattle-can. A couple coats and then some matte clear.
I could have done a slightly better job, but I hate spray painting and anything at all is better than spoiled peanut butter.

But I like the spoiled peanut butter look, especially against the black coated blade

Don't worry, I only painted MY scales, not all the peanut butter ones on Earth. Go check, you'll see. I promise your knife is fine. ;)

Also let us know how the mods to the guard work out, looks very comfy.

I'll let y'all know on the paint. I let it dry for a month before bolting 'em on. It LOOKS like it won't flake.
The choil feels way better with more room. Not sure how much it will matter from a board clearance perspective. I prefer the straight spine too, but.... Not sure. The stock 15 is pretty good lookin', and this variation may be more go than show.

I personally really like the straightened spine - it's subtle, but I feel it improves the look.

When I first got my 15 or actually before I got it just looking at the pictures,,,I was thinkin', (ah oh):

Straighten the spine like you did, and also drop the point just a little to give it a similar to how the BK16 looks. So it would be a longer blade type drop point.

But since I got my 15 I like it alot . I like the size feel and the length of the blade. I think I have to buy another on now

Like that straight blade daiz. That's one of the "mod" options I did in GIMP for the 5.

Hey Dubz. Speaking of the Becker mods, sometime before Xmas I plan on making a Beckizashi of some sort. I was thinking an elongated 5 with a shallower grind would look good. Did you run any up like that? Thinking 24" OAL would be a good length. Also thinking about whether it would be worth elongating the handle as well or not. Do you happen to have anything along those lines for reference? If not I can sketch it up myself, but yours are just so PRETTY, ya know?
