Beckerhead Knife Making and Modification Thread

Its only dangerous if you lose traction on a sand patch in a corner approaching a school bus unloading a field trip of toddlers.

I have the 1988 55 horse version...same can be said of a 50mph corner, a sand patch and a reeeeaally big oak tree

i had that... bike bounced off a large stone in a wall, which itself then PUSHED OUT after rebound about a foot. bike managed to grind on both sides, and ended up 180, and practically standing on its feet, before falling over :D me? bit of a bruise and a potentially gunched shoulder, but i got off light.

Yeah me too-hit sand, slid, hit pavement, started to get highsided (directly towards the tree) and smacked the bike down to avoid that. I was really lucky. Got up and rode home just a little scuffed up.

But did the saw still run afterwards, or did you have to change the blade??

(this is all just convincing me to sell the bike to make room for a saw)

Thanks guys, yah I've seen where guys glue the template straight to the steel, and have considered this. I even went as far as scanning in all my designs etc, its a good idea. I find that tracing and rechecking helps me slow down a bit too, so there's that.

As far as cutting out I was using dremel cut offs to "get into" the cut, but I am considering making an investment for a better means to cut out blanks. Its on my radar with a pile of other tools I need lol. Never stop needing tools. I appreciate yalls feedback!

You can also drill a hole at the ricasso/notch area so you have less to dremel or file.

Yah I should have probably drilled out some small holes for the shoulders of the guard tang, would have saved some time, still have a bit more room to make there to make sure my radiuses are correct to avoid creating stress risers. Need to add a drill press to my tool list lol! Thanks for the advice Daizee, you know a lot more about this than I do!

man, I do want to get a good metal cutting band saw. I currently have a 9" Craftsman but its better used on wood/g10/mycarta. I will try getting a good metal cutting blade and see how it performs, otherwise I will stick to my cheap angle grinder.

I just drop my bike and ride it out for any old thing because it's safer :)

BTW, if anyone wants a big flipper with ZT-smooth action, the big Junkyard Dog is a phenomenal value.
I have both sizes, but hated the mall-ninja pocket clips (the part that shows!) like so many do. Someone on BF posted a mod and I thought: "duh. why pay for a custom clip?"

Finished up a little leather work for the belt carry portion of the 7's sheath. I love going to Michael's Crafts store on Friday nights. The scenery is just...very satisfying.

Retention is a little too serious...pretty sure it's the choil area; trying to figure out a remedy without screwing up the basically good snap around the lower guard.

I don't really plan to belt carry it, though...made a first attempt at slots for MOLLE type straps for "tactical" carry ;).

Feels really good in my hand, and I quite miraculously got an excellent edge onto it. Plus the tactical ass end beer opener works....like a beer opener should.

The sharp end works pretty good, too....

That is some great custom work. Nice job on that.

I can vouch for how sharp GSOM's 7 is. I was making feather sticks as thin as tissue paper with it with control.

Just finished this one up for my brother: 63 layer damascus Nakiri with curly Mayan Rosewood scales. Kit kitchen blade from woodcraft; been using my 3 layer one with curly maple scales for a couple months now - blade's a little, erm, not straight, I guess, but slices tomatoes paper thin. Onion dicing capability is outstanding as well. Hoping he likes it.

That's the wood I used that it's sitting on.
