Beckerhead Knife Making and Modification Thread

good job on making that bad boy pretty!
looking forward to hearing how it does in the woods.

Thanks fellas, I appreciate the kind words! I'll be sure to let y'all know how she does good or bad as soon as I get to take her to the woods.

Man, Pollock, that 9 is sick! Very nice work my friend! Can't wait to see some action shots!

You can make your own logos and etch them in.

Did you regrind entire tip including the swedge or is that all rounded off from the spine area? I really like the way that drop point came out

Very nice job on that 9'er, Pollock! I'm curious to the balance and how it feels now. Keep us posted with wood-thrashing-experiences please :D

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the kind words and encouragement!!!

Slice I use to have an Etch-O-Matic machine when I was making knives but ended up selling it, I've never done one without a regular etching machine. I was wanting to keep the factory logos but it didn't work out that way.
The swedge is still the factory swedge, I just took the sharp corner/point (where it dropped in a straight line to the tip) off the spine and and radiused the spines profile some down to the tip.
The drop point to me makes it look less tactical and more like a woods knife.
I'd hoped to get some action shots today but we're still having high winds and heavy rain here today.

Thanks bro! The balance point thankfully came out in the same place as it was originally which is 1" in front of the scales. That's something I watched and planned for carefully as it was really important to me to keep it as close as possible to the original balance point. I lost less than 1/4' of the length of the blade re-profiling both the spine and the belly slightly. It seems to handle great but we'll see how she does when I take her to the woods. There will definitely be some thrashing photos to come! :-)

Unfortunately I forgot to take my own before shot for a side by side comparison, but here's a generic "before" off the internet and an "after" shot.

Summer, plus schedule, plus a certain fear of plunge lines had been keeping me out of the garage and making anything, but the itch caught me. So I made a plunge line-less mini cleaver.

Bought some shiny purple fabric from the store for pseudo-carta. Should have squeezed the mold a lot tighter. Too many bubbles and voids, but it's shiny.

For scale...

The Warrior would probably have to hold it with tweezers. ;)

I'm giving it to a friend I'm staying with on New Years. Maybe we'll break it out for cutting tiny snacks.

Regardless of the self deprecation, that is a VERY cool little cleaver, Dunk. By the size of it in the last photo, I think it'd be a 2 finger grip for anybody. What sort of steel did you use? HT yourself? And I like the My-carta. Looks at least as good as my My-carta.....

Thanks. It's 1084 from Aldo. I did the heat treat in the backyard - definitely some things to improve there. I need to figure out how to up the heat a bit more. But a fun project. I'll probably be making another in the future. And I'm going to squeeze the fool out of the My-carta mold this time.

I didn't get to use it much today other than some hard chops into this huge maple log to test the strength of the re-profiled and softened tang, but I did at least manage to get some photos of it that are hopefully a little better since these were taken outside.
