Beckerhead Knife Making and Modification Thread

Ohhhhh, Super Fun!!!
Nice work.

Now use the skate wheels to make a grinder! :D

Really cool Tobiism. Neat repurposing of the original knife and awesome idea to use the skateboard.

tobiism: that is cool. At first I was, like "WTF did he put up a cut up skateboard pic in there?" and then (I think) I got it. How do you anneal the handle? I'd like to see some more pics of that, and what your setup is.

Yeah, that 16 was begging to be modded. I have one other that I'll leave stock, but.....

Rounded the spine and added a firesteel striking notch, added some liners of yellow cutting board, smoothed out the transitions on the Micarta (they come with some pretty, ah...sharp edges) and Danish oiled it. Waiting for the oil to dry and then Imma buff it with carnauba wax.

I'll do a separate thread when it's done.

Good looking 16 GSOM! To anneal the new handle area of the old machete blade I just used a MAPP and propane torch together to heat until cherry red and then let cool on its own. I used the vice as a heat sink to control how far the heat went.

Great work tobii. Love the scoreboard scales. Anything upcycled I think is really neat. Guess that's why I have so much junk around waiting to be upcycled lol

Looking forward to that 16 GSOM...
Looks great so far!

Very cool mod.

You could also share this over in the Ontario Knife sub, if you haven't already. They'd be glad to see it for sure.

Nice work fellas!!!

I've got to check my settings. I don't know what happened but I've not been getting my notifications of new thread posts, thought maybe everybody had went on vacation. LOL

Well after using it for a bit I had to make some changes to it. I changed the handle/grind transition area to be swoopier and changed the grind closer to the handle since I left the original blade shape. Then I dropped the point an inch to get the point in line with the handle. This is how it will stay now. I am calling this one finished.

Love that blade, great job Sir !!!

Looks good! tobiism, if you're gonna shuck out that kind of money, I'd save up a bit more for a variable speed setup. I think there's a guy on here who makes some sweet grinders in a similar price range. I think I paid about the same price for mine, and got variable speed, although it would have been nice to get an enclosure for my controller.

Is it possible to add a variable speed controller to your setup afterwards? I really like the design and layout of their setup, which is why I'm considering theirs. It's not so much the price as what you get with it and I really like how their's is setup.
