Need opinions here. I'm taking my son on a pretty big climb / hike (for a kid that just turned 7) and am considering getting him a decent knife to commemorate the weekend. He's proven himself to be safe and trustworthy with the old slipjoint I gave him and I'm thinking either a Mora / LMF knife, BK14 or ???? What say you?

Well. For his small hands (most 7 year olds are) id probably get an 11. I personally dont like the 14 but thats just me. The mora wouldnt be to bad of a choice either though.

Yeah, I like the 14, but the 11 might be cool for him. After all, he needs to open his Sprecher's Root Beer the cool way and not just twist it off.

I vote a SAK.

SAK might be nice. I've thought about getting him a classic or Farmer, but was thinking more fixed blade this time around. He is homeschooled, so I'm not too worried about it causing a stir if he forgets it in his pack. :D

My vote is for either the 14 or the 11. As we all know they are great durable knives. The 1095CV is easy to sharpen thus it will be easy to teach him how to put a good edge on it. The 1095cv will also teach him how to take care of the knife. Maybe go with the 14 over the 11 because it is a bit more comfortable the 11 might fit his hands best now but I'm sure he will grow haha. I remember my first "real knife" It was one of my grandpas old hunting knives. Still have it.

I just spent most of the day in Todd's shop, and being sworn to secrecy sucks. But you know..wow.

So do we think there might be a contest this month? I know we're bound to 4 a year, but my car is getting done and I won't have anything to do pretty soon here.

Anybody notice that Les Stroud is using his new camillus line of knives in the first episode of Survivorman Ten Days. I think in the third episode (second survival situation due to 2 parts) He is using his helle knife.

Hey Folkies, I've been busy... just got a new post up in the maker's gallery if you're interested in what I've been up to.
Hope y'all're having a good weekend so far.

Daizee. Gotta say man, if I wasn't a knifemaker myself, id be buyin your stuff. Very nice, great purpose drivin design, very nice craftsmanship. Well done. Love the green on the knives you posted!

I vote brusletto baldur as a good first fixed blade.
nicer than a Mora, sized for a kid's hands.

Happy new Becker Day for me.... To treat myself for a long day of driving, I picked up a BK13 at a shop I decided to peruse around in.

I was debating on stopping in and bugging Todd & Murph at the shop as I drove by, but I was beat and ready to get back home.
