I think we have enough votes to start the other polls
I was going to try and get some specific types/categories. Kind of like a high end / medium / and low end budget options and send the ideas to Thomas. See if he could get back with an idea of price and a time table. And then include those options in the poll.

Off the top of my head it would go something like this:
Titanium / ZDP ~ $200 ~ lead time 1 year ~ minimum 200 qty
Polished CF / S30V ~ $100 ~ lead time 1 year ~ minimum 400 qty
Plain or smoked G10 / sandvick ~ $40 ~ lead time 6 months ~ minimum 600 qty

(These were all figures pulled out of thin air - by me.)

I figure if people had a better idea of the costs and the time frame to save, we might could turn the maybe's into definite yeses. And we would also know how many people would have to show interest to make this thing a reality.

I'm willing to bet most people are going to fall into the middle ~$100 category considering half the people said getting it would depend on the price.

I am more into the lower range at 40 bucks. When you hit the 100 to 200 range you are in ZT country. And I can't see paying ZT money for a Skyline. That would be a deal breaker for me.

Not sure if its been mentioned, but the MSRP for the Skyline is $75. Getting an upgraded steel and/or handle material would increase the price from there.

FYI, the annual Traditional Forum's knife is usually around $100, including shipping.

Yea I know I said I'm in no matter what but let's not go overboard here. I think you're looking at a maximum of $80-$100 for most everyone on here.

Great idea! I own 4 now and would definitely buy a BF special edition. Carbon Fiber, high end steel, and keep the street price under $100.

@5 - your idea is good, but would be more appropriate for a LE/group buy. It would be much better to have a 100 piece run, if it is to be a Bladeforums Knife type of thing as PG5768 mentioned.

I would agree on a $100 price for the knife. Not sure we'd be able to get CF scales and a super steel for that price though.

You can just buy a regular production model for the price you're looking at. Tere would be no point in a "special" knife then. Also, there are Kershaw knives into the $200 + range (Tilt, Volt, Speedform)! Not only ZTs?

I PM'ed Thomas. I will let you know.

Somewhere I thought I had heard that there was a minimum quantity to do a group buy. I figure the more expensive, the lower the minimum quantity. I am going by the limited runs that they did for the leeks over the years.

 thanks.

Yeah but street price is usually 40% of the MSRP. The S30v Leeks and Blur MSRP for $140 and street price is ~80.

I think S30v or 154CM with a different color G10 would easily be doable for under $100 street price. Hopefully CF would only make it like $110 ish.

I think CPM154 with sky blue G10 scales would be the BOMB. Also, this needs to be available to us Canadians as well...dont forget about us!:p

The Kershaw Shallot in 14C28N goes for around $50. The S110V version went for around $75 with the same handle material. The Skyline in 14C28N goes for around $35. Based upon this admittedly limited information, I think we can get a Skyline in S110V and a special colored G10 for less than $100.

after holding the skyline in the store the other day i gotta say i'm not a big fan of the skyline. so i probably will not be getting one. however if we had a BladeForums special edition blur i would buy the @#$@ out of that.

I would definitely get one, I'd recommend the best steel we can get keeping the cost under $100 and smurf blue for the color. S30V would be awesome. I think another color G10 would be more realistic than carbon fiber, since that is a different material altogether.

Im in. Any G10 color. Black Blade. S30V would be sweet. I'm sure I can get others in town interested.:D

I'd like to see either 154CM or S30V (I feel these would be reasonably affordable steel upgrades); I'd want the blades either stonewashed or tool-finished like the Benchmades and Emersons (no bead-blasting). For the handle, G10, tan or brown would be my top choices, although a lighter blue or a darker green would be interesting too. :)
I think as the price gets higher, interest in the knife will drop off quickly. Also, I think if there's not enough of an upgrade to make it stand out from the standard production model there might not be as much interest either.

I had an idea.

Perhaps we could talk to Thomas about making a Damascus Skyline with another color G10. I think it's been mentioned Kershaw might be remaking the Damascus skyline. This might mean they would ask for fewer commits from us, since they would be using that blade (Damascus) in their own limited production as well. Add on a unique G10 color and this knife would still be different than all other Skylines while perhaps being more feasible than a premium blade steel that would not be used on any production models.
