Skyline is a lower end to medium end knife. Dressing it up with exotic scales and steels doesn't make too much sense especially if its going to cost around $100 or more.
I can see a 154cm or S30v skyline with different color G10 for around $55-$65.

There were probably a lot of people that said that about the leek but its variations have sold very well.

If only 100-400 are made and super steel is used they will sell no matter what the price. Kershaw doesn't scalp its customers so pricing will fit in the realms of the materials used. $100+ no problem IMHO.

If management is receptive to this idea, it would be great to see list of approximate price with different combination of steels and scales. We could vote on which we prefer.

Side note damascus is not a super steel. :)

My mediocre concept art done in MS Paint.

Bright blue G10 (think M390 Paramilitary 2) and S110V, baby!

I'm going to be realistic and say I would take anything that is a change from the normal Skyline models, I really don't need a titanium-carbon-fiber-kvt Skyline to be happy. To keep costs down, I would take whatever leftover steel and G10 they had from the ZT knives (S30V/S35VN, Elmax, or ZDP). I think a radical departure from the normal Skyline would bump the price up significantly because of the manufacturing time.

I think most people would be more than happy with anything that got offered, an odd color G10 would be great. It would also be cool if these were just like a limited run for KershawGuy and we could order through/support him, wouldn't necessarily have to be a "bladeforums" edition. Just tossing ideas out there.

How do you guys feel about a glow in the dark backspacer, blue too maybe?

I would like to see if we could get a price difference for Ti liners and KVT. I vote both.

I think a top carbon fiber and blue G-10 lower grip would be the best of both worlds.

I like the visual aide it's nice. Seeing it makes me wish for stonewashed grind and polished above with all the logos there.

You sir, sure do have good taste with your dreams. :D

Bolsters add a lot to cost from most companies, since fitting them is a PITA. KVT would also be insanely expensive to engineer and produce on a knife that didn't originally have it designed in, I mean one scale has do be milled out and have the ability to take a load from the bearings, so we're talking framelock already just to get it working I'd think. The GITD materials are also kind of a pain to work with, they seem to chip a much more easily than g10 (from my experience, I know spyderco did the Manix run but those were two big scales not a little backspacer.

Honestly I love your ideas, I mean a carbon fiber bolstered blue g10 scaled Ti framelock with kvt and a polished blade skyline would absolutely be amazing, but good god it would be expensive even if it was produced in a big batch where the costs could be spread out. No way would many guys here actually put down the cash for a $250-300 skyline.

Now carbon fiber scales with black hardware and a stonewashed blade would be pretty cool and much more affordable, I'm just worried that everyones going to get a little too far from reality and a forum knife will never happen. And then what would be all go crazy trying to get our hands on?

Okay I'll throw another what if, out there:
How much do we think it would be to enlarge the whole thing about 15-20% to less than 4"? Cheaper than KVT or Ti liners?

How about we enlarge it, add in KVT, switch out the liner lock for a titanium framelock, make it elmax steel, hinderer lock stop perhaps? with three dimensional milling of the handles, we could do two colors to make people happy, say brown g10 and black g10? :P

Honestly, I don't think KVT is necessary on a knife with a smaller, lighter blade like the Skyline. It would only add unnecessary expense.

We should be able to get a different color G10 and a super steel for around $70-80, a price point that appeals to probably everyone here. Once again taking the S110V Shallot into consideration, an S110V Skyline (S110V arguably being the best steel in terms of edge retention that Kershaw has worked with) with different colored G10 appears to be doable in that range. Once we start overloading on other changes the price will quickly push over the $100 mark. IMO, we should limited ourselves to G10 color change and blade steel change; we're not trying to make a new knife, just a limited edition Skyline.

^^^

I agree. It doesn't even have to be as fancy as s110v. I think most people here would be satisfied with s30v.

And I see no need for KVT when you can easily deploy the skyline with no wrist flick needed. It isn't that hard to do, even pointing straight up in the air. It's not hard to learn, I showed my buddy how to do it and he got it first try.

Benchmade Gold Class? Spyderco Jigged Bone Delica? Lots of campanies have moderately priced designs, doesn't mean they should never be dressed up.
