Yea, I would get one, as long as the cost is reasonable and I don't buy another ZT first. Use up all my cash! Below $100 would be my limitation.

How do you think M390 fares against S110V? Close second or dare we say even?

S110V should be in a category of its own, called super duper stainless steel.

On paper, S110V should be BETTER if not equal to M390. Well heat treated M390 can hold an edge comparable to S90V. I've heard S110V described as "S90V on steroids." That being said, I've never personally owned a knife in S110V due to its relative obscurity, so I'm going off of others' tests and company data sheets. I came across an older man in a gun and knife shop a few months ago and we discussed blade steels. On his person he had probably four blades on him, including one custom 5 in+ folder in S90V  a small button-lock in ZDP-189, and a custom titanium framelock. Needless to say, the guy knew his stuff, and he told me S110V could hold an edge better than S90V due to the added Niobium and Cobalt in the steel (elements that neither M390 nor S90V have.)

Of course, heat treatment needs to be taken into consideration, not only chemical composition. If Kershaw does something like a Rockwell of 60-61, it should blow away pretty much anything.

You are speaking my language. I have a shallot in S110V, it's what made me love stonewash.
I think the various elements of chemical composition is what makes it real special, like one of a kind. But like you said, it's scarce. I don't think Kershaw would be able to do it even if everyone agreed.

I think ZDP, or S35VN or S30V, ElMax are the most realistic options and my preferred order. Let's not give up hope for S110V!
S35VN has a lil niobium, I guess it's better than S30V.

I think most people would be more than happy with anything that got offered, an odd color G10 would be great. It would also be cool if these were just like a limited run for KershawGuy and we could order through/support him, wouldn't necessarily have to be a "bladeforums" edition. Just tossing ideas out there.

Come on, spare a thought for the guys over seas.

Yeah, I'm holding out for S110V, M390*, Vanax 75*, ZDP-189, and S30V, in that order. It looks like out of the bunch ZDP is the most plausible, which I can't really complain about.

*Assuming they have any left from the Volt and Tilt for a ~300 piece run.

Ahh, have to love all you dreamers...

As to getting a knife done up in a flavor you all agree on, well that's not gonna happen.

As to getting a knife done up that the majority of you can live with...doable.

Someone needs to take the lead, work with a dealer, keep it realistic, order 600 pieces, wait patiently so to take your turn on the factory schedule, and we got a project!!

Let me know if there are questions.

I PMd Dave as I think he would be the first choice for everyone here. I know he is probably swamped though, so if he would rather not do this I have a couple other dealers I'll check with.

Great to see this is indeed possible and I think everyone should pay attention to Thomas W.'s post in terms of (1) someone needs to take charge (2) finding a dealer to work with and (3) keeping it realistic which probably rules out most of our lofty and ideal dreams.

Thomas, maybe you could comment on the feasibility of using a material other than G10 for the handle, for example carbon fiber? I think most realize here another color G10 is probably the only realistic expectation.

Is 600 all that the order needs to be to get something customer like that?

Quite frankly I could live with however this knife comes out since it will mostly be a collection purchase for me. And believe me, I will purchase one... or more... Though I do think Elmax steel with jade G10 would be sick!

If Dave was down to do this maybe it could be done by pre-order to cover most costs up front?

order 600 pieces
What does everyone think about that number. It's much more than we had thought. For that many I am thinking it will just have to be another color of G10. No fancy steels. Even with that it maybe pushing it - for us on the forum to reach that number.

IMO 600 would be easy peasy to sell for a dealer. I would say the Skyline is comparable to the Leek in street price and seems to be pretty popular...the Leek has gone through sooooo many variations with many over 600 pieces and they sold out quickly and are nearly impossible to find on the 2nd hand market!

And it's not much more than I thought. It's actually the exact number I stated in the first thread that was brought up about this.

We need to ask an experienced dealer who can tell us how many would sell and at what price.

If the dealer is willing to take on the order, then we ask forumites for a head-count based upon the price estimate. A poll without a price is unreliable.

That bolded part is my biggest question. Exactly what kind of lead time are we looking at before our names come up on the factory schedule?

I think that would make a big difference in the amount of people willing to preorder the knife.

Let's see, we have about 240 people on board, many have said they would be down for multiples. I myself would be down for two. If we hit 300 people, minimum, I think this can be done. That being said, any ideas on how to hit that number?

Maybe we should start a different poll to see how many people knives each person would purchase.

Alright, I emailed Dave (Kershawguy) to see if he would be our dealer. I'd be willing to step up and help coordinate this, BTW.

First thing that needs to be done is to settle on what it would be. color, material, etchings, etc. And at what price. Then we can move on to see how many people would get how many. If that doesn't reach some golden number, then we trying changing around the material and color and what not to see if we can get more.

In my opinon, we should start with higher quality, see what price that would come in at and see if there is interest there. From there, work your way down.
