BHQ Lum Tanto

Either that or there just aren't that many people who want one w/a black blade and green OD scales, regardless of the price.

I still don't see $290 being a magic # that people will not cross. Maybe it's "inflation" and the high cost of everything else which is creating the reluctance to spend $290 on another knife that you really don't need, when your greater need is to put gas in your tank and food on the table.

Whatever the case, it is what it is.
We live in a world of inflation, we are used to it. This pricing is “butterfly tax” ridiculous. Dare I say it’s rather condescending to assume that people who don’t pay $290 for THIS knife because they don’t find the cost equivalent to the value struggle to pay for gas and food? Can’t some people just disagree with you?

What if this knife was $400? $500? Even $600? Going to say “well it is what it is”? Market pressure changes the way businesses are run, and if a business charges too much for a product how would they know unless people tell them (or refuse to buy it)?

Many can definitely afford it, we just like to know that whatever we buy justifies the price. I do that a lot with whisky lol

Exactly. It’s still available so that says something. I remember buying the M4 smock for around $180-$190 I believe at BHQ and it sold out in like 60 seconds I think. However they calculate the price on this, it makes me wonder if it was more about the name “Bob Lum” and not a comparison to similar Spydercos.

Price is way off imo, and won't get one. I was really interested but Spyderco is out to lunch with this price. There is zero chance I'm paying 3 bills for a Taiwan made g10 liner lock (yes I know Taiwan makes great stuff, but at 300 dollars there are plenty of US made options). If this reflects Spyderco's pricing for the future I'd be done and enjoy the models I have.

It's made in Japan rather than Taiwan if that means anything different to ya (for me Japan is putting out the worst consistency and quality Spydercos over the last few years though)

Ah thanks didn't see that it was Japan!

Next you'll be taking aim at my Rolex. This $300 Spyderco is a tool, and my Rolex is a tool watch thank you very much.
Rolex is more about fashion nowadays and you know it. You can get diver watches that function the same for a fraction of the price. Same with this knife, there are other knives that are made with better materials for less money. Are you diving with your Rolex?

Wearing a Rolex is a good way to get robbed. It’s like a huge neon sign that says “easy $25,000”. I wouldn’t dare wear one even if I could afford it. People get killed over a small fraction of the worth of a Rolex. Some might think “well I’m carrying a gun”. To that I say “so will the 4 guys that pull up in a car to take it from you”.

Well done, Spyderco.

BIG shocker BLADE-HQ still hasn't shipped it. 2nd day air shipping over 24hrs later no movement. Their shipping dept is consistently disappointing.
I would never pay for expedited shipping unless I knew it was almost a certainty they would ship same day.

Anyone know if Japanese Spydercos with liner locks frequently suffer the same vertical blade play as their lock backs?

This price is high IMO but I could see it being okay if it didn't have blade play issues...
