BHQ Lum Tanto

I splurged, and I'm glad I did.

Got mine yesterday. I've always loved the Lum folding tanto design (regret selling mine years ago) and I was willing to spend $300 on the Lum design with upgraded features rather than $400 for the original on the secondary market.

Knife is solid - no play; smooth action; centered. No lockstick. Razor sharp blade.

I don't mind the black blade - I don't own many black blades and it matches well with the black frame and nice OD green G 10

I'm glad Blade HQ and Spyderco released this throwback design with newer, improved materials. Yes, $300 is steep (especially in this economy) but it's appropriate given the higher cost of everything these days. This model will probably appeal more to the old farts like me who miss their original Lum, rather than the newer crop of collectors who will just spend half as much on a Civivi or Reate.

I feel my money is well spent. I'm a Spyderco and Sal Glesser fan for decades. If you are too, this knife will not disappoint.

I'll shoot some pics later.

Mine is out for delivery. Lum fan. I have many Lum models, including a Benchmade Lum Tanto.

Price whining is cringe. People will spend $800+ on a Slysz Bowie.
I have a 40th Native, Tatanka and K2. Inflation sux but it's not Spyderco's fault.

I’d argue peddling for cash through a gofundme in your signature while at the same time flexing overpriced knives is more cringe. But who am I to judge.
I know you're trying to shame me but thanks for pointing that out. I forgot it was in my sig. I can't see it on my phone.

I was out of work for three months for medical. Unemployment didn't apply so I was selling stuff and going to the food bank. No shame about it. Sorry to disappoint ya.

Look for the HAP40 one. It was just under a 1/3 less MSRP.

Hap 40 is a better steel IMO.

I'm not buying this one, the looks are appealing. I think it's over priced for what it's worth.

Well it's here. I felt bad knocking the knife before it arrived. I was ready to apologize and sing praise for my favorite knife being re-released. Then it arrived. This is by far the worst quality Spyderco I've ever seen. This looks like a DHgate version of a Lum tanto. The blade is cock-eyed and cuddling the liner. Those garbage plastic washers probably don't help. The scales and liners are uneven everywhere, nothing is flush or finished to a level becoming of Spyderco.

Scales with gaps.

Poor finishing, nothing lines up.

This picture really sums things up perfectly. Keep looking, it gets worse the longer you stare. Check that lanyard tube out. The ends of the handles aren't even the same length.

Nylon. I forgot they use these in the re-releases. I do not like them at all.

How did this make it past Spyderco and Blade-HQ to me? This is pretty unacceptable, especially when you consider the cost. This is supposed to be Spyderco and Blade-HQ at their best. Two companies I ordinarily hold in almost God like status. I know this does not represent either brand appropriately. It certainly doesn't represent the late Bob Lum.

Bummed. I emailed Blade-HQ. Hopefully they will come through with a positive solution, I have faith they will.

You guys did fine with the shipping. UPS was giving delayed tracking info.

Yeah UPS sux. They claim they made a "Delivery Attempt" but no one saw them. There is always someone in the shop and house here all day long. Now I'm waiting for Arrival at UPS Access Point Location.

I pulled the trigger on one. For 2 reasons..
1. I had a 2011 sprint, that I sold and missed.
2. I'm all about the color scheme.

I had bought a Hap40 Lum tanto, but sold it. Not a fan of the scales.

My BHQ M390 is a little stiff, in action, tho is loosening up.
It's dead centered and with none of the issues as posted above.

Still might sell it to a friend. He's into tanto's and didn't get one.

Wow that fit and finish is abysmal. I don't understand why anyone would want a black blade that wasn't dlc coated anyways, no matter how cheap the cost. That stuff marks up and comes off like paint

Wow! $300 for what amounts to be a poor knockoff. Not a good look for either Spyderco or BladeHQ in rolling out a much loved and anticipated knife - tip grind, color combo and cheap washers notwithstanding. Higher costs def not funding QC. Send it back and get a GB2 with scratch to spare.

Must have been a lot of people not liking the price, it's still available to buy.

Haven't been checking on it daily but it's sold out now. Less than a week. So, not everyone thought it was "too expensive."

Out of 725 or 750, available. (I believe is what I saw posted).
When I bought mine, 3.5hrs after the drop, I believe it was down to 123 left. (after I bought mine)

Whatever that may mean? Lol.. Just a fun tid bit.

How fast do other spyderco exclusives sell out? Usually within an hour or two from what I've seen. So it sitting for a day or more is a little telling.

IDK. Sold out is sold out and selling over 700 knives in a wk is over 100/day. That still sounds like a lot of demand to me.

I'm sure BHQ is happy with that and it really doesn't matter that it took a wk rather than a day to do it.

It's not like they were sitting on them for months or years which has been the case for some of Spyderco's offerings.

Tip geometry comparison of latest release VS original numbered ti C46.

Resolution of logo on new release is quite poor.

The original Lum probably had the most complicated tip design of any Spyderco production knife. It was a real masterpiece that could never been duplicated. Makes me wonder if Bob Lum did the final tip work himself.
