Blade Forums Spring Street Barlow (BF Knife 2021)

i think the 86s in general were all gifted with generous belly, but as long as there was no blade rap im a happy camper.

Is your backspring sunk at close now?

It’s still just as flush. But I didn’t have to take much off. I just spent the last several minutes staring at it and using my finger to feel for it, but I can’t see or feel any difference.

I dont know how to do this could you explain and show which bit you file?
thanks.

you would file on the kick

however it needs to be done very carefully as you can affect how the spring sits. thats a lesson i learned the hard way

As someone who's done it on my lambsfoot, it won't take much. File very little at a time, close the blade, check, and then file more if needed. Only a fraction of a millimeter on the kick will translate into larger drop at the tip of the blade. Good luck!

in all likelihood, if you are someone who slams their blades shut in to the blade well, chances are you might just wear it down over time. Ive seen gecs and other traditionals in general that show some marking on the spring where the kick hits.

As these guys say, a little at a time...literally a swipe or two of the file then check.

Some folks advocate putting a very small piece of leather in the well rather than filing the kick, that’s more for blade rap though and not a proud tip. It might also attract moisture. If you have an issue and aren’t a hurry id just call Joan and coordinate sending it in to be fixed by the pros.

I think the fact that it sat a tad proud, plus the fact that I really want to keep and use this one, put me over the edge. I knew it would more than likely (and now confirmed for sure) void the warranty. I think I used that as an, “ok, it’s a true user for life now” kinda thing. To push myself over the hump, so to speak. Now she’s riding in my pocket and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Gonna let this one patina naturally, nothing forced (unless I spot any rust, then I’ll go ahead and push it through). Might even pair it with a little whittler.

Is it legal to think that you might prefer your stainless 2AB Barlow to your carbon steel 2021 BF Spring Street Barlow?
Its a free world why not.
I am trading my lovely older 74 carbon for a stainless 2AB Barlow,we are crossing the pond with our trade.
I figure stainless is better in hot climates when I am on a bike trip and cant spare water for cleaning blades.
But I like both materials.

I don't have this knife I figured it was good to know for other models.
