Blades upon Books - Traditionals

Come on!!!! Someone must have a photo of a Barlow with the Adventures of Tom Sawyer. 😃

Alas, I have no Barlows:eek:...Missed out on the latest run (every one I've seen has been a beauty too:(). But I do have a 1920 copy of the book ;)

Fantastic books and knives all! Markesharpe-is that one of the smaller seahorse whittlers, such as Bob showed in a previous thread?
Thanks, Neal
Ps-saw your last fixed offering. Just wow! I too would probably try to close it out of habit:D

I have owned this book since I was 5.

I have been collecting them since then and my collection is in the hundreds. In recent years they have been amusingly "re imagined".

This has definitely become a favorite thread. I spent my lunch taking a bunch of pics of book and knife pairings, I will have to dole them out slowly....

Here is one of the older books in my collection, paired with a stockman I just received from 10fingers.

Well, seems like you're spoilt for choice with those options, Greg!

I love rereading Hemingway's Big Two-Hearted River 1 & 2, from time to time.

Aias, I'm also a big fan of Melville and Cormac McCarthy. I would have to say The Crossing would be one of my all time favourites (along with Blood Meridian, of course).

As Moby Dick was mentioned, there's actually quite a bit of knife content in that book.

Agreed! Most of these books have great knife content. Green River knives, bowies, mention of various folding knives... such content brings me closer to the characters and stories. I'll have to check out the Border Trilogy... and I'll remember this when I get to The Crossing. Thanks for the recommendation!

I love this photo, will. That smooth bone (?) pairs perfectly with the aged pages.

Thank you Greg, most kind. It's a rare knife that I decide not to use, but this is one of them. I have a lot of users but this one I just like to contemplate, like art, music or literature:)

Well, I seem to have misplaced my Tom Sawyer book and I am not in possession of any Barlows.... However! I have the next best thing.

A beautiful Harness Jack displayed with a very nice edition of Tom's compadre, Huck Finn.

This is a fantastic thread. Wonderful books and knives, everyone. I have a bunch of ideas, but I just haven't had time to get the knives and books together for photos. I'm really looking forward to contributing a few shots.

Hi Neal,

That is the knife you are referring to that Bob posted and thank you for the nice compliment. :)
