i can't wait to hear the justification for this noxious act of selfishness.

Thank you, Mike. :)
Since these are the same 5 images I just received from Mr. Bose, I'm going to just copy & paste them into my OP, if ya don't mind.

One question, why wouldnt the person responsible for the transaction for the knife not check ID? I mean, this is no run of the mill knife. If some guy just walked up and said "oh hey Im so-and-so" and the guy believed it out of hand that was his bad too.

He didn't just "walk up". There was a huge crowd there, and he was already up near the table somewhere. And I know this to be true...honest people, even suspicious honest people sometimes display trust by default even when they don't intend to. I've made that "mistake" often, myself, and more than once it's bitten me in the arse. PLEASE do not fault the Boses or any of the great folks that helped them at their table. Only ONE person is at fault here...That poacher.

But, with that said, might want to have your driver's license handy for the next lottery. The Boses didn't say anything about any changes to me, but they are not happy this happened.

ETA: Kerry! THANK YOU for the use of your images, man!!! I am both really thankful someone got (great ) pix of the ZS, and that you are willing to allow the usage of them. Much appreciated! :)

What a shame, I hope that you are able to recover that beautiful knife.

Griff

Here's how I see it:

Whomever poached it had one of two motives. Either he wanted it for himself, and knew that $1800 for such a knife was a bargain, seeing as how it'd cost way more or take several years to get the knife by legitimate means. Or it was purchased with the intent on flipping it. If the former, he'll never be able to show it to anybody who'd really appreciate it, for fear of exposing himself as the poacher. If the latter, by now I'm sure the person realizes he'll never be able to sell the knife. If it gets listed for sale somewhere, be it on a forum or an auction site or on consignment on a website, someone will recognize it and expose him. And I doubt he'd be welcome at any more shows where lotteries are held. If, somehow, the culprit is discovered, it might almost be worth this transgression to find out who's low-down and dirty enough to do such a thing.

I am sorry to hear that this slimy behavior has taken place and burned good folks like Jaxx and Tony Bose. I hope that ultimately things will work out for you Jaxx. I tend to think the group of folks who browse around the web for knives like that is not that big, and the number who actually lay out the cash for them is smaller still, so if it pops up in any of the usual spots I'm confident word will get around quickly.

Alex, this is a real bummer. I had just paid John for my Lanny's clip when this guy leaned in and claimed your knife. I saw all of your excitement when your name was drawn, but did not realize it was the damascus folder at the time. I wish I had known that now, because you and Jason were visiting right behind us when this happened. I actually told the guy that he should look up Don if he wanted any information on how the damascus was made. All I can tell you is he was dark headed, a rather small build, and not very tall. Not much info., I know, but maybe it will help. I hope this has a good ending.

 Thanks, Joe! Every bit helps and this certainly does. Do you happen to remember any other details? Shirt color, tats, verbal accent, anything at all? Give it a think and see if it triggers a memory. I appreciate the info!!!

I mentioned a guy putting his name in the card stacks for the drawings like 30 times each, literally. That was back in either 2009 or 2010, and several people there recognized the name and pointed the guy out when he came around during the drawing to see if his name was drawn. I remember him fitting that description, and that he was also a "brown bagger" with a big backpack full of knives he was peddling on the show floor.

If anyone else remembers that, and can recall the name, maybe they know some of the company he keeps and can make some inquiries. The kind of guy who would try to rig the drawing on the front end, wouldn't be above snatching one on the back end if you ask me.

There is no way anyone could reasonably expect to profit from this without being revealed as a thief/con man, so one would think there is a good chance the person responsible bought it to keep for himself. I hope that if he isn't going to do the right thing he does try to sell it so that one way or another that beautiful knife can find it's way to someone who is deserving of it.

...And that's why I love this community and this site. If you're playing dirty pool, people will recognize you and it's hard to walk among us without being spotted. :)
FLymon, thank you for posting that here!

A few thoughts on this...
First, I'm sorry you had to go through all this, yet it's great to see that the good guys are solving the problem, and yes, I agree with Kevin, your knife will be more special than the others.
Second, it's astonishing how awful someone can behave.
Third, this might become food for thought for the future lotteries: there is always something to learn.
Fourth, this person might own "your" knife now...but I'm sure he doesn't have anything good in his life, or at least anything that I consider worth having.
So forget about him (to the OP), be more careful next time (in the lottery thing), and let's not forget that a knife (no matter how wonderful) can't turn an empty bag into a good man.

must be a horrible feeling to have someone do this to you. The person who stole this must have exactly the same mentality as Gollum: blinded to all other human values by lust for a shiny object and indeed he'll need to be hiding in a cave under a mountain somewhere if he doesn't want to be found out.

After speaking to you only minutes after it happened, your upset and disgust was only outweighed by your disappointment in discovering that there is a low life criminal amongst the honest and upstanding people of the knife community. Alex, I hope this gets sorted asap.

Jaxx, I assume you are spreading this around as many forums as you can. Let us know if you need any help with spreading the word.

Spending time in this forum and with friends makes me feel that this world is moving in the right direction, and then we hear (and experience) this, and see that people can still be disgusting. To that guy, karma's a, well, you know...

I'm a little late finding this, but I can only imagine how you felt. That is an incredible knife... It is disheartening to hear about people like this.

I can't offer much help Jaxx, but suffice it too say, if you find that it may be in Oregon, let me know. I have plenty of vacation time, and an endless supply of diesel for my pickup, and would be more than happy too help if I can.

Like everyone else here, sorry for your loss Alex. Hopefully you will receive your knife soon and someone is able to identify the SOB.

Everything was too fast and furious. Didn't pay close attention to him, just spoke in passing. No accent, had a baseball type cap on I believe. There was a lot of picture taking early on in the drawing. Maybe someone has a picture later on?

I just read this... I´m sorry to hear about this. I hope the person that took that knife will be found and punished.

This really sucks. I hope you get it back, especially because it´s such a beautiful piece of art and craftmanship.

I´ll keep my eyes open for that one. But I think the one who took this knife will not be happy with it at all.
