BOLO: Seeking A Poached Bose BLADE'13 Lottery Zulu Spear (Ivory & Hanson Damascus)...

A few thoughts on this...
First, I'm sorry you had to go through all this, yet it's great to see that the good guys are solving the problem, and yes, I agree with Kevin, your knife will be more special than the others.
Second, it's astonishing how awful someone can behave.
Third, this might become food for thought for the future lotteries: there is always something to learn.
Fourth, this person might own "your" knife now...but I'm sure he doesn't have anything good in his life, or at least anything that I consider worth having.
So forget about him (to the OP), be more careful next time (in the lottery thing), and let's not forget that a knife (no matter how wonderful) can't turn an empty bag into a good man.

Fausto

Well said, Fausto.

Alex, you should take the above photos and add them to your OP.
I agree with the above post. A knife like this won't stay under cover long. It will surface, and then there'll be hell to pay.

What he said - that is just poor in all ways.

I wish I had known about the lottery even!

best

Art is not meant to be enjoyed in solitude. But that is what this sorry soul will be stuck with.

Just read this Jaxx, how disturbing. I'm sure that put a damper on your whole weekend at Blade. Hopefully this dbag is enjoying your knife! What a lowlife thing to do. Some consulation knowing that Tony is making another for you...class act for sure!!!

Jaxx, I assume you are spreading this around as many forums as you can. Let us know if you need any help with spreading the word.

Jason, and to everyone:

Yes, please! :) I am new to this area of knives, so any help with appropriate forums (USN is already covered), Dealers/Resellers, whether B&M or internet (AZCK, Steel Addiction Knives, and Boss Hoss have received BOLO's from me already) would be a TREMENDOUS help! Also, anyone who snapped pix during the lottery or before of the crowd, please consider sending copies to me, don't care if they are bad shots, if ya know what I mean. ;) These would help a bunch now that at least one person here just might be able to ID the poacher out of the crowd, or at least rule out others...I would hate to single out the wrong person standing there.

I'm not proud, LOL, honestly I could use all the help I can get, and please remember that I love to catch...ahem... people (trying to keep it clean here!) who do this sort of crime (theft of any kind) so if Heaven forbid this happens to anyone else at some point, I'll be more than happy to be right there trying to help.

Please also remember that I'm not the only person who had something like this happen at the Show. I believe Les George lost a knife (theft), Our own David Brown lost a Busse Anniversary Mean Street in one of his sheath on Sunday to a thief (check his latest thread on the Busse Forum, please!), and I think that there is another maker who suffered the same. I'll find those details on the third and edit to add here.
BOLO, BOLO, BOLO!!! ...Let's bring 'em all home. Thank you very much everyone, I can't begin to tell y'all how much I appreciate the help, and the kind words. This community ROCKS!

Yes, he most certainly is! ...This piece of news I had left out in case the poacher has "ears", so to speak, but since it's come to light, I will confirm that Mr. Bose insisted on creating a replacement. "Class act" is an understatement concerning the Boses. They have been just so kind and very helpful and just wonderful all the way around. Integrity. LOTS of it... And that's why this is personal for me. A man with that much integrity and a solid positive reputation deserves to not be trifled with, and I intend to get that message out, along with the message that THIEVES will not be tolerated at these shows any more. In other words... "NOT up in here!"

And yes, it put a damper on the weekend, Friday, really...but I still had a great time. :D Illegitimi non carborundum, ya know?! ;)

I just read this. It is disheartening to say the least. I hope this guy is caught so he can be banished and shunned by all good knife nuts. If you were there and have pictures of the crowd send them to Jaxx and canineforge. As this was most assuredly premeditated, the scumbag will be towards the front of the crowd early on to get into poaching position.

Alex I am really sorry to hear about your loss. That is truly despicable to steal a knife from a fellow enthusiasts, stealing anything is of course is wrong but even more so when it is with our own community. If you ever figure out who this is feel free to post his picture and address here as well :)

Jaxx, sorry to hear about this -- but good to hear the Boses are going to make sure you don't lose out even though they didn't do anything wrong.
Best of luck having the original show up -- and best of luck to the other folks who had stuff "walk" over the weekend.

I'm still trying to grasp how someone would have the nerve to even think about trying too pull this off... I guess some people just truly don't care, as long as they get what they want.

I think anyone that has that much nerve, won't be able to keep it hidden for long. He will eventually have to share his "accomplishment" with someone

[...] He didn't just "walk up". There was a huge crowd there, and he was already up near the table somewhere. [...]

It's possible the poacher knows Alex (or at least knows what Alex looks like) and knew that Alex wasn't near table. Just food for thought.

Jaxx,

You were always super kind and helpful to me during my years in the Busse Forum. Consider me on the look out.

Kevin

I've put the word out to the few people that I know. I hope this guy is found out quickly.

Thank you very much, protourist!!!

I've posted BOLO's on the USN, and the Mighty JD, waiting for a Mod at KF.com to reply to a PM, and sent about 15 or so BOLO emails and phone calls out to well known knife purveyors. If anyone knows of other forums or any purveyors I should also contact, please shoot me a PM or email ( jaxx27 (at) ComastDOTNet ). Thanks! :)

Just a thought, but you might contact the Oregon Knife Collectors Association. They put on a very big show in April, in Eugene Oregon, and there are makers, dealers and enthusiasts from all over, that attend. It may be a good way to further circulate the info about the knife.

has anyone posted this over on the australian blade forums? if not, let me know and i'll start a thread over there.

Could be!

However, it's also possible he was rather more recognizable to all BLADE-goers after his name was called and he alternately shouted, wept, ran laps around the venue, and did the banana dance:

In all seriousness, I'm so sorry this happened, JAXX-- not just to you, but to the Boses and to the greater knife community. I'm heartened to see so many come together to try to make this better-than-right (as far as is possible), and join with everyone else in hoping the matter comes to clear and decisive resolution.

~ P.

Maybe Mark Zalesky at Knife World could make mention of it in his column? His email address is on the website, also might want to try Blade as well.

Mistwalker posted up some photos alreadt in WS&S forum.

I just read this and that really is a gut wrenching story! I really hope you find the low life who did that, the knife is absolutely stunning!
