Boom Parang. . . . . . Sneak Peek!!! . . . Pics & Specs . . .

Do tell, do tell!

Well, they are based off an old shbm run that very few know about. Even rarer than the 1/300's. You and jason would enjoy. :D

The rest have no clue. You had to be there to know

I honestly can't wait.

I really like the handle. Reminds me of the ever popular Chopweiler

Kinda reminds me of this:

Eerily similar...

I keep thinking this boom parang sure looks like it would pair well with a rodent solution or rodent trail. :)

The 1.8 doesn't make sense.

To me, it looks like maybe 2.25 at the end. Would be nice to see it next to something familiar for scale. Like another battle mistress.

Width seems off to me too, but I'm no expert. What's the width where the talon hole is? Wishing the blade was wider.

Yeah, 1.5" to 1.8" just doesn't seem right. Maybe it's just the perspective of the photo.

Given that it is a parang (or at least modeled in that style), the specs don't seem inaccurate to me. (It's actually quite wide for the type, IMO)

I likely would have let this one pass, if not for the green canvas offering. I've used a couple of parangs, and - in my hands - they were far less efficient than a machete or big knife. Maybe the blade height on this will be an improvement, as it is closer to what I am accustomed to using. The plan is for this one to see use...I suspect that I'll be able to gauge how much use within a few minutes of having it in hand.

OH MAN! I would LOVE me some of this, AND it's the same color combo as my BWM! I have the Cheapie BG look alike and it does ok to a point. Now THIS thing...... But Lackamoola :(

aka SkunkHunter in the Yard.

Hard to tell from the one picture and didn't see it mentioned in the description, apologies if I missed it, but is this full flat or high saber? Thanks in advance.

Unknown. Someone thinks it's high saber, based on the pic, but it's too subtle for me.

I know one can't judge from a picture but I'm wondering what would chop better between this and a 1311?

Yeah, that was me. But when you expand the pic, its even harder to tell so I'm not sure. Hard to tell on the green one too. Still, I'd love to know the weight on this thing...

I am so glad that held off on the DTBM right now. The Boom Parang is sure to get more use! From a practicality standpoint, the parang itself is arguably one of the greatest bush craft tools available. This blade will be excellent for shelter building and general camp chores, also the thickness, size, and weight (which I am willing to bet is very close to 20 ounces +- a few) will mean "packability" should be well within my acceptable limits. I feel like it is going to pair perfectly with my MS Ergo. I've never actually been this excited about a purchase before :D I'm gonna test it on a 2 x 4 the very minute it shows up!

I'm basing the weight estimate on similar size blades of the same thickness and length such as the Bark River Golok who's dimensions are nearly identical with a weight of 18.25 ounces. The Golok's blade appears slightly less wide which is why I added a few ounces to the Parang's weight estimate.

This is the critical question for me as well. My quess is that it would be close, and might come down to edge geometry which is likely to have some variation from blade to blade. Assuming all else is equal, maybe the 13 would have some advantage due to the extra speed/leverage from the longer blade.

I have a 1311, a modified 1111, and a Double Talon on the way, so it's hard for me to justify this, but it still looks sweet.

All this technical stuff makes my head hurt. I am much more into caveman skills. Get knife, knife sharp, ouch! son of a.. check. Use. Put back.

This might depend on whether you prefer a lighter, faster blade for chopping, or heavier, slower one. The 1311 will fall towards the former, and this parang, which has more steel behind the edge (taller blade at equal thickness), is the latter.

I already have too many choppers, but this one has me looking to see what else I can sell to fund the Parang.

And then the Bolo 13 is coming. Right, Jerry?

Right, Jerry?
