Bose Knives

Wow! Interesting how the spline is thick on the blade and tapers down towards the rear or is that some photographic optical illusion?

It is what it looks like -- that's what a tapered tang *is* :p -- it can be extremely thin by the time it gets to the butt of the knife (which is what you want really). John is one of the very best of the Loveless style knifemakers. Bob Loveless got the whole tapered tang idea from the old forged knives out of Sheffield which used both a tapered tang and distal tapered blade to balance properly and reduce weight. Of course, this sort of tapered tang is ground into barstock, not forged, but the idea is the same. It's a much more elegant solution than just drilling holes in the tang to lighten it the same amount (though somewhat of a pain in the butt to grind -- takes about as long to do a proper tapered tang as it does to grind the blade).

Tony and Reese do this on most of their fixed blades also -- though I don't have any pictures to show this. Anybody?

That knife looks just about weightless. Bet it won't even make a dent in the pocket of your linen pants as you walk along that South Seas beach with your honey in one hand and a Mai Tai in the other.......:D

Here is an old one that I was able to shoot recently. I don't know how many of these Tony made....this one surely is a dandy. ATS-34 blades and springs and the infamous old bone of curious origin. This knife works and looks great.

Amazing knife! Beautiful sculptural shapes; the best old Lord Wharncliffe (or whoever he was) ever dreamed of! Nicely hafted bone, appropriate swedges, compact single spring package. Words fail me. . . .
Look how snug the blade fit is in the handle. I love this knife!!
Reincarnates hoary old Wharcliffe perfectly!
