Bose Knives

That coarse-jigged peachseed-like bone is wonderful stuff! Where oh where did it come from???????

James, just sent you some mail.

Karl
Got it! Bose Nuts, just wait, this post may be edited with BOSE.:D:D

Got one from Karl, he said he has many more to take. These are the four and five blades. His description follows.

With all of that said, attached find my first attempt at a “group shot” of 14 of my 5 and 6 blade slip-joints. The Bose representation in this photo is two Sow Belly patterns (five-blade)—one by Tony and the other by Reese, a five blade Whittler by Tony and finally, a six-blade Congress by Reese. The other knives in the picture are by makers I have previously mentioned and Lothar Berg (a guy in Canada who makes very, very few knives but whose work is on par with the very best makers), Rick Browne (out of Northern California) and a guy by the name of Shane Sloane from Texas as I can remember.

This one is headed to Karl as well.

Karl,You are Avid,lol...Jim ,thanks for the posting of Karls stuff

Now,I have a question regarding that Ivory teardrop proto...
Is the discoloration on the Ivory, part of what I have heard some call it "dentyne",of the tusk ?
It's really special.Tony's Ivory is always killer!

All spectacular knives...!!! Would you please let me know what's size -closed- of the tear drop? Thank you.

Vince,

The outer part of the tusk is composed of dentin (or dentine if you are British). It's what we call 'ivory'. It's also found beneath the enamel in human teeth. The discoloration is from the surface of the tusk. In ancient ivory, the colors can be related to minerals in the soil. It's probably related to diet in the more modern tusks.

Here's an example of some beautiful ivory with great surface color. I was told it's the only knife on which Tony used Indian Elephant ivory. (apparently the Indian tusks are smaller and have more surface color)

Tony hasn't made many of these with a swinguard...this one is stamped "0".
It's a 4" Cattaraugus Slimline Trapper made with CPM-154 and covered with the infamous old bone.
